Ahh - should read posts more carefully...

Thread goes thru the blue circle...on pic.

Reach under the dash (per yellow arrow) to reach the 10mm nut....

Hope this helps

Havent removed any as yet.
But cant physically find the drivers side one.
Have pulled the heater flexi pipe off as in bible but still no joy.

I (and many others) have replaced the nuts with M6 wing nuts, saves using a spanner next time round and makes them easier to find with you finger tips.

Closer shot....the bolt goes out at an angle from the roll top that points towards (but NOT down) the side indicator...

Make sense....?

while you have the dash off do what i did remove the drivers side bolt completely and buy 2 pieces of velcro for the drivers side of the dash get the double sided backed tape velcro and position one side just below where you cant see it when looking and the other on the dash top easy to do grips well and no ffffinn an beeein and dont forget to replace your nuts for M6 wing nuts on the passenger side

Thanks for all the advice given today.

Once i got started i removed the three nuts in about 40 minutes.
Pulled out the right hand heater duct as per bible but that didnt help at all.

I then spent about 1 1/2 hours trying to manipulate the right hand stud out from the hole with no joy.
Contacted a wiser fellow local TVR owner who arrived to give assistance, within 10 minutes he had the dash top off. The answer and method required was not a special secret just more force. LOTS more force.

On refit will certainly be cutting studs down, using wing nuts, and possibly velcro on drivers side.

Changing gauges over tomorrow and bulbs if i can get them on a sunday.

Once the top is refitted i will post photos of the finished result.

When I got my dash-top off for the first time it was only to get a ‘looky’ at the gubbins underneath, so I then just placed it back in situ without reaffixing - and discovered that it sat there perfectly well! So all I did was cut a bit off the bolts, put some shrink-wrap on them (to stop scratching when removing/replacing) and the dash-top has remained in place and perfectly secure since.

I'm not a massive fan of wood finish normally but that does look really nice.

Just wondering - is their a big difference in the dash removal procedure on the early mk1s with the black rimmed dials? Easier / harder?
