I bought some green Cerbera seats about 18 months ago to replace the standard Chim seats, I always intended to re-colour them the match my Magnolia interior and finally got started last week.

Generally the kit is quite easy to use and the results look pretty good. However I would definitely recommend using an air compressor as the propellant cans can be a bit of a pain especially in cold temperatures. You may get away with them for smaller jobs, but for a full seat re-colour I think a compressor is a must. Mine cost £60 of Ebay and worked perfectly. I might also try using it to fix a couple of scratches on the bodywork.

Anyway here’s a few pictures of the progress so far

Before

After leather prep, initial application and first coat with the air brush

Second coat with airbrush

First seat complete

Comparison

Yet to apply the clear finishing coat, but will get more pictures when complete.
While I had the seats out I decided to change the carpets under the seat and in the foot wells.

State of old carpets

New carpets and Mats in

Hi Tim,

Sorry forgot to mention it was a medium kit from The furniture Clinic.

I did actually run out of the colourant yesterday, due to a small spillage but it would have been tight anyway due original dark green colour. A med kit is probably fine if you are revamping your seats in the same colour, but for a major colour change i'd probably recommend a large kit.

Ordered an extra bottle of colourant this morning so hopefully get the job finished at the weekend.

A quick update, now the seats are back in.

Had a bit of a delay as the second batch of the Leather colourant seemed to give a different Finnish giving much more of a gloss finish. However after applying the Super Seal and final satin coat the seats have come out really well.

As I have a spare centre console I also decided to have a go at recolouring this and the new leather Gaiters I ordered from D & C Trim. It will be interesting to see how the colourant lasts on the vinyl. If it lasts well I might do the rest of the magnolia trim.

Seats back in car, before and after:

Overall pretty happy with the results and it was great to get some good weather for a change at the weekend to get out and enjoy the car again.

They look brilliant, you've done a great job there. I'm very interested to see how the paint holds up on your centre console vinyl as I am thinking of changing the colour of mine too when I do my seats over the next winter. Out of interest, what colour/paint code did you go for?

On a slightly different note, when you took your seats out did you have to jack the car up or can you do it without raising it? The reason I ask is I noticed the carpet underneath the back of my drivers seat is soaking wet so I might need to take it out to get a heater on it to dry it.

They look fantastic, well done. It must be scary setting about a pair of seats which cost so much. I'd love to have a go at mine and might be inspired now.

Easy peasy Tim.
Just 4 13mm nuts to undo and they lift out.

2 nuts you can see and 2 which are by the centre outrigger tube which you'll have to feel for.
You'll probably find a cut or bent washer on one or both of the bolts you can't see. Just note where it comes from. It will be obvious when you put it back up why its been cut or bent.

AJ,

Still have old seats, but they also need a refurb.

Tim,

Colour was matched to my original seat colour. The centre console is the same colour as the original, so hoping it holds up well, if not I'm going to re-cover the bolsters in prussian blue to match the dash top. This company seems to stock some original TVR vinyl colours http://www.segalmotortrimmings.net/www.segalmotort...

Seats can be removed / replaced pretty easily with out jacking the car up, just the four bolts to undo and lift out the seat.

Look nice mate, i had my seats re covered last year making the centre consul and door cards look grubby and a bit more yellow so don`t match.

The centre consul bolsters would of looked good in blue to match your top dash, often see this combination on Chimps

Is there two products one for leather the other for vinyl.

Angus,

How is the paint holding up on the vinyl centre console and lower dash sections that you recoloured?

Thanks,

Tim

Angus,

Have only just seen your reply when this thread has been revived. I'm desperate to get hold of some chi seats, what colour are your old ones and a couple of months later are they still kicking around the garage ?

PM me if it's easier.

Cheers,

AJ
