Right gentlemen i spoke to the manufacturer just now and things are back on track!!

he will be posting the details on a new thread so the guys that want the alloys will have all the information required on there rather than it being on 2 or 3 threads. We do not want any confusion

Once the thread is up by the manufaturer can we please get on it quickly so these can go into production. I might need some help with some of the 15 or so people on the list to re confirm there order.

cheers
Sandro (ROPPS)

This is the mail straight from Adrian the wheel manufacturer . Unfortunatley the costs initially from V8ndy did not have the true costs. Please digest the information below and let me know what we as a group want to do.

MAnufacturer mail is as follows below -

Hi Sandro,

The minimum we need to get this going is 60 wheels in each size.

For one wheel size this is 15 vehicle but because this is a staggered size set the minimum quantity gets doubled as we need to run 60 in each size. 2 wheels of each size per car = 30 cars.

Initial die tooling is £16000.00+VAT this is broken into three payments.

Phase one.
We start with a deposit of £1000.00+VAT (Balance £15000.00+VAT)
This gets the drawings done. We would need a contact from you guys or a group of contacts for us to send these drawings to. Once approved and only when fully approved and happy do we move to the next phase.

Phase two.
We need the balance of the first half of the die tooling £7000.00+VAT.
We then begin manufacturing the die tools for each wheel. This process would be between 6 & 10 weeks (as there are two to make it could be a little longer)

Phase three.
Once both dies are complete we need the final stage of the die tooling £8000.00+VAT This is when we allocate the casting date.

In between the time of the die completion and casting date we begin to collate all the order and the deposits.
We normally require £50.00+VAT per wheel as a deposit.

Once the wheels are cast we then heat treat them and begin manufacturing them. From being cast this would be approximately 3 weeks.

We would then process the payments for all the wheels once complete and ship them.

This is as comprehensive as I can be.

The price we originally quoted was £120.00 for the front wheels and £145.00+VAT for the rear. These prices have been increased but we will hold them at this price once again to assist as much as we can to get this started. Including the die tooling and the supplying of the wheels and delivery of four wheel to a UK mainland address and the VAT is approximately £1297.00

Once again, a custom made set of wheels. Not a bad price at all.

SECOND PART TO THE MAIL FROM MANUFACTURER -

Hopefully because we can make this wheel 4 or 5 stud it may open up to more people so the 17 people that are interested now may increase.

The cost is more than Andy posted but in my defence there for some reason he did not include the manufacturing of the die tooling.

It is an incredibly good price for a custom made set of wheels. The £16000.00+VAT is the initial set up. The second time these were made the die is already paid for and the wheel price is the wheel price.

On the second run you could set the price for the wheels at whatever you wanted (fairly) to recoup some money for the guys on the first run. The guys on the first run would “own” the die

me again (ROPPS)
Guys i have tried to get all the information so we can make a call on this with true costs and manufacturer processes. Shame the die tooling bit was missed out as its made the final costs jump up quite considerably. Again lets not forget these will be unique bespoke wheels for our beloved cars,so the decision is ours to make, but we still need to find 13 or so new buyers to make the numbers

Lets not forget we still need to add our costs for tyres which will be in the region of £150 per corner(estimate)

Ouchh thats nearly £2000!! i know some of you are scratching your head saying thats expensive, and i know some of you are thinking what can i sell in exchange of these beautiful new wheels!!!

Im just saying £2000 is a lot of dollar, especially with my wedding on 2 months or so away.......

But Im still in? anyone else?????

Just to make sure I understand this correctly, we now need 30 people willing to pay £1297.00? Those 30 may get some money back as owners of the die if future runs of the wheels are produced?

I really like the wheels and i'm still in if we can get this closed (find the necessary people) by the end of May. After this I will need to get new tyres on my current wheels and hope to get on the second round if this goes ahead.

Thanks again for your efforts Sandro.

Hi,
I have had some dealings with UK manufacturers of alloys in the past on the machining side. To try and save some cost, would it not be possible to see if the original tooling is available to purchase from the original manufacturer? I assume that the 4 x 108mm PCD can be machined into the cast wheel, as they are usually drilled not cast in. Again I am making an assumption that standard size wheels are being re-manufactured. Ropps, sorry but my last reply was a quickie during death by Power Point and I didn't see your second reply, from the manufacturer...

I'm going to say I'm still in, I pretty much agree with Skid. I do think it's time for someone like Race Direct, Racing Green or TVR Car Parts to step in, they would better be able to leverage their customer base to have a bigger production run and get the price down while still making some margin.

Anyway, it would be great if we can to it!

Cheers

Why not ask and see if there is an existing forged blank in the correct size and get them nachined from those?

Guys, I do not know a thing about alloys and where to start with other manufactures. I can't see another 15 or so people wanting these alloys for that price plus the guys on the list wanting to pay around 400 quid more.

Happy to keep going with this but I'm not convinced we are going to do get this deal finalized.

Such a shame but i completely understand! it was a shock for me when i realised that £16,000 had not be accounted for on the initial price...

if anyone does find some nice alloys for the car that dont effect the drive and look really smart then please send a pic and link as im still in the market for some new wheels.............. maybe we can get a bulk buy??

If you are looking at alternatives, depending on design you can get the ET of a wheel altered (made more positive if I am the right way round?) by a competent machine shop with a flatbed milling machine. You wouldn't want to do anything too drastic but some change could be tuned into a set of wheels fairly easily therefore broadening options on choice.

I can see why the 5-stud conversions were/are popular. Trying to find 17x8 or 17x8.5 combined with 4x108 pcd is almost impossible, let alone a matching 16 for the front and the correct offsets frown

Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 and Compomotive MO6 being about the only options. Other suggestions?

Apart from the two styles mentioned (and Lenso BSX), that seems to be about it for choice, even using 8J. Unless I'm simply searching the wrong sites!

I've been looking for years, even seriously considered doing the 5 stud conversion, but I don't like 16's all around. My current thought is Compomotive MO6 or the VLM, I could ask for a deal on a group buy... I'm currently in conversation with Adrian from Compomotive

I'm still tempted to send a quick email to the major TVR part suppliers about the Spider deal

I've been looking at Image Wheels for some.
They can do any size/width and the quality is excellent, I had some on my last project (MK1 Escort).
Maybe they would do a group buy as the 3 peice split rims work out about £1500 or so for a set normal price?
