My Chimaera is generally utterly reliable, and completely leak proof, APART from what appears to be a leak in the drivers side footwell. What could be causing this?

An excellent candidate.
Sealed (with black mastic/silicone) from the factory, not always sealed after removal for a top up.
That said, mine never leaked when unsealed, but it easily could have...

Also potential leaks from the cables going into the wing with joint around the wiper spindles sometimes being a culprit.

Sounds daft, but the roof leaking can leave you with water in places you wouldn't expect. Definity worth giving it a repaint / proofing.

Make sure you use a high temp mastic.

I used gutter sealant, and everytime the engine gets up to temp, the stuff gets really soft and sticky!

Take off the roof and check the rim on which it sits on top of the windscreen.

there are some screws holding some interior trim. In my case, water was coming in beside the screws and ending up running down the door channel and then inside.

I put some silicon around the screws and problem fixed.

The obvious one is the clutch hatch. With out a decent seal on it you will have big issues!
