Hi again folks.

Thank you to the people who gave me advice in my last thread, here.
thumbup

I now have the finance in place and need to find a car.

I do not have any specific needs, apart from the car not being Red. Ideally I would like a 450 in a shade of Blue or even better, Purple, but as I said it's not that important.

Any known cars or cars that you have seen which look good would be of great assistance, I have been in touch with my local TVRCC, I am hoping these are the right steps and 'my' car is just around the corner smile

Whilst I am typing, I have read plenty of things about the T5 gearbox and 'Serpentine' engine being the ones to have. Is there much truth in these claims when it comes to reliability etc?

Nick

Personally being the owner of an early non serp and rover box 430 I don't think there is that much in it, again depends on how they have been treated I. The past.

Only the early cars had this set up so you want a 450 this shouldn't effect you.

Quick way to check gearbox is position of reverse gear, if it is below 5th Gear - Borg Warner T5, if it's to the left of 1st gear - then it's a rover gearbox. You won't find many rover gearboxes for the cash you're looking at...

Nice one smile

Is one better than the other? I have heard talk of the Rover 'box being a bit weaker and not able to take 'spirited' driving quite so well.

That's basically it. T5s higher power rating, supposed to last longer - but the type of car (450) you're going for will have a T5 anyway i reckon. Happy hunting.

Nice one, that car has been advertised a few times I think, with different pictures.

The one thing that gets me though, is the classic 'lost History' line....

Think I will steer clear of that one then thumbup

I have noticed there seems to be an awful lot of price difference between what looks, to me, to be the same car (spec, miles etc.).

None in person, but lost count of how many I have looked at online and emails I have sent.

Got my first proper viewing this weekend though. I decided to go alone at first, before I waste peoples time. Just so I can get a feel for what I am looking for and what I want.

i,d start with colour most important budget why spend 10k when you can spend 8k service history chassis mods wheels etc etc i personally prefer wooden/veneer dash to stainlees i think stainless look tacky i have an excellent wood one so i,m lucky but its personal choice, and last but not least knock them down everyone expects to get knocked down especially in a recession

This is one of the issues I am having. I don't know what is a good price as I've only been looking for a few weeks. Hence the constant questions..... i also wanna test exactly how friendly you TVR bunch really are thumbup
