Happy Newbie, Small Niggle

Good evening people, great to be a tvr owner!!!
Just the odd niggle, just wondered if anyone has had the clutch pedal sticking at different points when engine and gearbox warmed up?
I wondered if the slave cylinder shaft cud be sticking on its seals when it has warmed up!
Any ideas wud be great

Yup - its been irritating me recently, agian mainly once ive been driving for a while. THe clutch feels rather "gritty" and there seems to be a lot of "stiction" when releasing the clutch slowly, making it hard work to pull away gently (not that I would be doing that often- ahem!)But in traffic / parking it requires xs effort. I have lubricated the pedal trunnion with spray grease and WD40, but like you I am beginning to get the impression that the roughness may be the master cylinder (or slave) seals juddering. I think this all started AFTER i (being really diligent) removed the inspection panel and drained flushed, cleaned and refilled the master cylinder. When i refilled it i used the DOT 5 fluid, which seems to be a lower viscosity than the more common DOT 4, (and possibly less lubricant?). I'm wondering if this is the root cause of the problem. Any takers??

Isn't DOT5 silicon fluid & as such not compatible with the seals in your existing system.
I think you should have used DOT5.1 which is okay. Best change it quick & keep fingers crossed!

Sounds like im gonna av 2 get deep involved in this fault, its more annoying than anything else, sounds like u av exactly the same fault, me thinks time 2 "borrow" some clutch fluid from work

Sorry folks, I should have said DOT 5.1, no panic. Had forgotten about that silicone stuff.

Could also be the release bearing/pivot arm getting sticky.

Dot 5.1 is fine and would not cause these symptoms. I would suspect the clutch master first though as they can get internal scoring which makes them sticky.

Thanks for that Steve, I was wondering.. But do you think scoring or sticky pivot is likely at 18000m? Cheers.

Ehmm... Why would silicon fluid be incompatible with existing seals ?
I know a tiny minority of systems are a bit sensitive, but TVR ? Really ? You sure ?


I like silicon brake fluid - I have to do my own servicing...

I know what's coming.
