Away for two weeks, got home, spend two hours polishing my p&j, went to play football and returned to a two foot, two panel key scratch. I was parked just out of view of the security camera. Little gits! Is this a common thing? Do I need to be more careful where I park, or just a one off?

They didn't event have the courtesy to scratch the same area as my neighbour scuffed, it's going to need almost a full respray now!
Fuming!

That's what I thought LordGrover. I have parked it anywhere and everywhere, even with the roof off and had no trouble. I play football at a school so it could just have been a few kids hanging around, not knowing any better. Given the fact that it was 7pm and daylight with cameras nearby I suspect any adults would have known better, but you never know. I almost left the roof off, pleased I didn't!
That is terrible and I will never understand the mentality of people that do these things. Absolute scum that don't deserve to breath the same air as the 99% of well meaning people in society.
I have heard of a cerb being keyed and it was so deep it damaged the fibreglass but these things are thankfully rare on TVRs. I once parked my Cerbera outside a supermarket one evening only to come back with about 20+ kids on bmx's surrounding it, you know the sort. I couldn't even see my car there was so many of them but as I ran across the car park to find out what the f**k was going on they were all just admiring the car and really polite. I started it up and they all just gave me thumbs up, no abuse at all.
I think you have been really unlucky and don't let it put you off driving/parking where ever you want. I drove my Cerb daily for a couple of years and parked in some right dodgy places (left on streets in Brum outside bars until 2-3am) but never had any problems (apart from very drunk girls wanting a "ride").
Hopefully this is a one off. With a little luck your insurance will pay for a full respray and the car will look fantastic.
Tim.

I remeber a few years back... A Griff parked at Manchester airport I think... and it looked like someone had pulled a roll-along case over the front!.. a right mess... B****rds indeed !..... So sorry for you here but it might polish out.. has it gone to the base coat?
.
My pet hate is handbags.. and the ones with all the metal bits on.. the number of times I've seen these pulled down the sides of parked cars... I actualy think I have a mark on my car caused by this!!....
C**P !!!

I've always been very careful about where I park the car, but only for fear of getting it nicked rather than it being molested by some scrote and I've only heard of one other TVR being keyed - which could have been the Cerb mentioned above.
I hope you get it sorted quickly. You have my sympathy.

Thanks for all the support, it does make me feel better! I was pretty pi$$ed off last night - you take it as a personal insult but I guess it's the person who did this who really has the problem. I wish I had caught the person doing it, just to try and understand why. I have worked really hard to run my own business and have always wanted a TVR, so I bought one. The reason it looks good is because I really value it and look after it as I worked bl00dy hard to buy it. The car is 13 years old and is worth about the same as a Ford Focus - this is not about showing off, most car budgets would get you one, it is about caring for what is yours! I think the vast majority of people out there appreciate TVRs though and on the up-side when I am behind the wheel I can't see the scratch! I actually tried to take out my anger on the right pedal which put me straight back in a good mood. Next time I have an argument with the Mrs I'm going to try the same strategy!

Or that. Only problem is that revenge may create more revenge, and our cars are quite obvious - I think I'd worry more about leaving it around town if I had caught them!Sorry to hear about your van.

Very sorry to hear this
I had a similar initial experience but without the heartache that followed. The girfriends mate thought it would be comical to put a length of white cotton along the nearside rear wing. From 6 feet away it looked totally real, and my heart dropped like a stone when it was pointed out to me.... As I was so upset initially they both got into bed with me that night
(the last bit isn't true I made it up)

I feel your anger m8, I run my own business as well, thats a full time struggle... Saved money for the dreamcar and finally got plates on it (cost me 11.000 pounds in tax) if someone keyed it it would kill me!
