I'd read someone on here using a sunstrip to mask it. I'd asked for pictures before but to no response. I'd be interested to see what that would look like though.

I used black vinyl, the type used by signwriters, I put some before and after pictures on here a while since. You can't see it uless you get up real close.

The signwriters vinyl looks good. Saw a Tuscan at a car show with the same idea and I thought it looked quite acceptable.

I used vinyl used by a local sign writer, it's done a great job. It's similar to the image in the link given earlier except i've tapered mine down rather than finish with a straight cut edge. I'm quite fussy with the car's cosmetics but often forget the strip is even there.

Happy to send you a cutting if you want to try it,

Richard

Wow, same place mine is delaminated, must try this. I'm would be tempted to throw a rock at it and get the winscreen replaced... except I already called them to see if they would replace it for the delam!

One thing for sure, will not take it back to Autoglass, get an Indy to do it

Had the other half's car done a few months ago.
If you use an approved (by your insurer) glass replacement company, you are unlikely to face any questions from your insurer, or indeed any contact from them.
We just called the insurer, were automatically transferred to autoglass, they visited and fitted a screen, we signed to say they'd done the work, finished.

I showed the autoglass man my less than perfect windscreen, and he said to "just call and ask us to replace it, there will be no questions asked". Seems most insurers normally assume you do not spend the money on a windscreen excess just for the fun of it.

Admittedly, most of us would avoid autoglass or similar for TVRs, and that's where it gets more complicated.

If everyone claims for a new screen every time a bird craps on it or it starts to delaminate a bit how long do you think they are going to keep paying out on these expensive screens and more to the point when they do who do you think is paying for it, Santa?

............ and then you can end up starting a thread like this:

A few windsreens are nothing ! Its the Insurance companies you need to worry about ,why do you think you get inundated with phone calls after a minor knock . Insurance companies sell accident data to no win no fee companies for between £300 and a £1000 ,thats why the premiums keep going up ,they are the crooks .

Have you seen how much they make ? they are the thief's ,you keep paying the premiums and what do you get sod all .!

These are not cheap jobs (unlike mainstream cars), neither is the remedial work putting them right when untold fitters have messed them up (not needed on mainstream cars).

When your insurance/excess or both goes up you will be the first person to come on here and moan about it, as always.

More to the point if you have something that fits well, doesn't leak, roof fits etc, why would you disturb that and open a can of worms for the sake of sticking a bit of tape over it?

Thats precisly the reason i am going down the masking it road because one way or another it will always be counted as a claim ,and also i dont want to risk damage to the dash etc. Any way off to a local sign writers in a moment to see if they will sell me some tape. thanks for replies

Just an update , the black vinyl is perfect for the job, only problem was i got over ambitious and tried to do the whole bottom section. it looks ok at least nothing a blind man on a galloping horse could spot. Am thinking of taking it to sign writers and let them do a proffesional job on it.
