What sort of speed of knocking? I assume it's related to engine speed rather than road speed?
If it's related to engine speed, are you able to estimate how many knocks you're getting per second with the engine idling? If you can almost count the knocks (i.e. about 6 to 7 per second), then it's either cam/valve related or something else that happens only once every other turn of the engine (e.g. a blowing exhaust port).

Sorry to Hijack this post but i've also got a knocking noise. It sounds as though the fan is on in the car when it's not. Opened the bonnet earlier and it sounds a bit tappetty and if i give a little rev before lifting off it makes a louder knocking noise.
Hope this description helps. I read that original post and got worried... Any ideas ?
