Can I ask anyone who has them, where is the wiring for the heated seats?

I will be refurbishing my seats in the near future and would prefer to upgrade them.

I have two triple plugs under the centre console (three circles mated together) if that helps - but no buttons, of course.

Many thanks,

Rich

Heated seats were such rare option, my old 500 had them though, all I can say is the button under the dash lead to wires coming under each seat and had a connector or sorts to actually connect them to a seat.
Sorry not much detail there

Do you need heated seats as the cabin gets very hot after about 30 mins or so doesn't it?

Having said that, keep this thread updated with progress as would be an interesting project to retro fit at some point! Can you still buy heating elements from anywhere?

Having just come back from a drive, heated seats, how I laughed!

Mind you, I'm the first to hit the button in the old BeeEmm in winter smile.

I have heated seats.

My advice is if they haven't been disconnected already, disconnect them.

Various reasons for this, one of them involves calling 999 from the side of the motorway and asking for the fire service.

The element used is Range Rover, it breaks, or if you are really unlucky it shorts.

Mine came disconnected, and that's the way they will stay.

Must admit, I've taken beastie out in sub zero temperatures and the thought of heated seats never entered my mind... Now traction control as an extra hmmm scratchchin (in the wet obviously wink )

As I always suspected! Wonder how many were made with heated seats specified?

Love the garage by the way, a 4.0 HC Chimaera and a Pri-Arse - priceless biggrin

My 400HC has heated seats...

I picked it up in January and the temperature didn't stray above zero all day yet I was positively melting in the cabin - I'd heard of heat soak but this was ridiculous!!!

Took a couple of hours of poking around for the penny to drop - the on/off button is on the steering column but behind the ignition key where the column narrows and disappears under the dash...not the most obvious!

Never used them since...even at the top of the Alps!

They certainly worked though!!!!

So does anyone know, is the wiring all there in the loom somewhere, or do I just take a fused power from somewhere and run a wire into the seats via a switch?

Sorry Haircut ,it`s true ,they have a type of plug in connector at the back and even have lumbar support .Controlled by a manual air pump.

Just to re-ignite this topic, does anyone know whether the wiring for heated seats is already there in a 2000 Chimaera, or would I have to add it from scratch?

Can't say for certain, but since the car uses a Land Rover loom for the cabin, probably the wiring is there, but well hidden.

I would wire them yourself, that way you know it has been done properly.

Typically the wiring from near gearstick up to the aux relay box (under the dash) is included in many of the standard car looms AFIK.

You would then need the fly leads from console to seat, relays inserting & the switch looms from the relay box + switches (these varied in position when fitted I gather).

Which model land rover, do you know?

I have two identical connectors under the centre console with no obvious function. If I could get the wiring diagram and work out which clolours to look for, these might be the ones?

Range Rover P38 would be my guess or possibly (but more unlikely) Defender. You may still be able to find a label on the loom near the battery if you fancy grovelling in the footwell. I know my old Chim had some sort of LR identifyer on it there.

ETA: More likely P38 as that had heated seats. The loom would have been the same for even the poverty spec ones that didn't.

The heated seat switch is next to the golf club release button biggrin

I wasn't aware TVR used Landrover looms for anything other than the fuel injection system, you learn a new thing every day on here... since they had in-house loom-building facilities it must have been a way to cut costs and maximise profit.
