Thanks for the advice.
Ok, now I know it is stuck on with double sided sticky tape..do you think heating it up with a hairdryer will soften the sticky tape enabling the plate to come off easier?
Damn I haven't got a hairdryer and can't go to the shops and buy one because I'm follicley challenged!

I did a bit of that before the knife bit, but I thought you'd think I was being soft! Not sure it made a huge difference either. chim_girl said:

If you can get it to minus 40deg C it will drop off.
Down side is... so will everything else!
