Got the car out of the garage and the front right has clearly dropped a few inches. Front left still looks right. Read my bible today and this isn't really covered in fault-finding. Where do I start? Think I have standard set-up except for Gaz Golds.

Damper failure? Do you have any oil on the ground around that side?

Springs..........

Either the corner of suspision or opposite rear. Unless your chassis has decided to become a banana then there really is nowhere else to look.

Or it's an early GG and the top mount has given up.

Don't drive, jack up that corner, remove wheel and check.

If in doubt, post a close up pic of the top and bottom mount.

Damping/shock absorber bears no relation to ride height scratchchin i was thinking more failed mounting or the spring collars/adjuster rings have wound themselves down the damper body frown

+1 - has to be either the spring, the spring top or bottom plates or the shock mount itself ...

Dampers definitely don't affect ride height.

LOL - Hey, I've been having this same discussion with my best mate for 20 years and he still insists that dampers determine ride height. wink

Yeah but 99.9% of people also refer to damper as shock absorbers too

...and they'd be correct in that dampers and "shock absorbers" are the same thing. It's still the springs (and the position of the spring seats) that determine the ride height though. biggrin

I thought you had dropped a bk to be honest thumbup but just couldn't help myself evil I still have to refer to dampers as shock absorbers on customers advice notes otherwise most owners don't know WTF i am talking about rolleyes and many old school owners still insist that the damper bears relation to the ride height of their car headache of course I have to teach them the error of their ways whistle

Sheepish admission warning!

I've solved the problem. Turns out the reason the front suspension was down a few inches was the large mound of stones under the opposite rear wheel!

Really sorry for wasting everyone's time. Thanks as ever for the great support from the community.

Thing is - I'm learning all the time on here too so I'm damn sure I come out with plenty of howlers too!

What I like is that there is a crapload of knowledge on here and as long as we're all sharing it then I'm happy as a pig in poop. hehe

No point ... it contains words rather than grunts - they'd never understand it.
