I need to replace the inner and outer half shaft gaiters. I was planning to split the units from the hub and diff at the allan key flanges. Does anyone know if the half shaft will manoeuvre out through or past the bottom wishbone or will I have to undo that as well? Just trying to limit the amount of disassembly/reassembly.

Cheers biggrin

I recall someone recently saying there is not enough room to get them out.

Separate the lower wishbone from the upright and swing the upright out to give you the room required.

If you undo the upright from the lower wishbone rather than the top one, your camber shouldnt be affected.

+1 ... did the CV joints on mine a few months ago and the lower wishbone had to be disconnected to be able to get enough room to get the shaft out...

Yes i did mine a few months ago.

Undo the allen bolts at both ends first, then remove the 2 bolts from the bottom of the upright.

You can then swing the upright out and upwards, and manouvere the shaft out.

Circlip pliers and a hammer should do it after that that.

Hmm. When I did mine (offside only) from what I recall I managed to remove without undoing anything other than allans although was a bit of a fiddle. When putting back in bag up either end to avoid getting any crud in CVs.

The grease should be supplied in little pouches with the boot.

You do need a *PROPER* meaty set of circlip pliers ... not those poxy circlip pliers that you get from Halfords! We ended up grinding down the ends of a set of needlenose pliers to do the circlips after snapping a pair of the Halfords ones.

I believe the standard CV joints are more than up to the job - Dave Mac Propshafts (where I bought mine from) said that they've been using their "standard" CV joints on quarter mile cars with no issues.
