Words that a guy hates to hear and I've heard it a few times this weekend...

Thankfully it was about the new dash panels rather than anything else - and now it actually is!

...so hopefully no more leaving my indicators on or not remembering I need to dip my headlights! biggrin

The dashtop is still off because I am waiting for a couple of 12vdc to 5vdc USB power supplies to turn up that I want to pop behind to power up the Road Angel and phone cradle so that I don't have an annoying lead trailing over to the ciggie lighter socket in the door.

Really - well I can assure you it's not - it's in my Chimaera - but I'm sure that you really knew that didn't you coz you're not a dumb fella and were just being hilariously funny...

Now were you actually trying to make any sort of useful point (constructive criticism being a useful point) or were your fingers in need of something to do and picking your nose (I did consider other options) wasn't socially acceptable at the time. (Of course it seems that, for some, social etiquette is somewhat missing generally.)

I'm reminded of something that my dear old dad used to tell me ...

"If you can't say something positive, encouraging or helpful then shut up..."

... or,as I got older ...

"Better to keep quiet and let people think you're a tw*t than open your gob and prove it."

Have a good weekend.

Thanks HCM - it's actually a laminate rather than a veneer - I presume this was what our pipe-bending friend was alluding to above - but I think what was already on there originally was also not a proper veneer either and I have to say I'm really very pleased with how it's come out. The iPhone makes it look a bit redder than it actually is.

I did try veneering it myself initially and made a right pigs arse of it - someone suggested they'd had quite good success in covering dashes with this laminate so I asked them to do it for me ... at a fraction of the cost of getting it done in a veneer it was worth a punt. biggrin

I'm giving these a go...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160802002588

The pain in the ass is that there doesn't really seem to be a proper "switched live" floating around to take a feed from although there obviously is one generated somewhere as the dash LEDs are only powered when the ignition is on so I plan to brew up a junction box with a relay and some stripboard to give me a number of ignition switched outputs to use as appropriate.

Cheers

Phil has a great sense of humour, he loved my Welsh dresser post.

The thing is it was a typo.

It should have read:

"I had a Welsh cross dresser in a wood"

I hate this IPad.

Sorry if I took your comment the wrong way but with no surrounding context it just sounded like a dig.

Given the things that people do to their Tivs (and even the way that some of them were specced from the factory) I'd have thought there were very few "unusual" finishes left.

Anyway, I've had the old girl for two and a half years and have had lots of issues with her - some pretty major - even though she seemed well sorted when I bought her. She's been a lot of work (and there's a lot still to do) but I'm determined that she will continue to not only be a daily driver but a *RELIABLE* daily driver and be up to par cosmetically too.

Did this mod, http://www.chimaerapages.com/resources_ignitionaux...

Only takes 10 minutes and gives you the 'auxilary' position which I find useful.

Cool! Just looking at getting a spare switch mechanism to try this on ...

... so just to confirm, modding the switch like this gives an "ACC" output that stays live once the ignition is on too?

Yes, i've got my radio fed from it for now, which (as a daily driver) is more useful for me. It is the normal first position you get in every other car.
I didnt bother trying it on a spare, when you have the bits in your hand its easy to see the small bit of plastic you need to cut away.
I cleaned up the contacts while I was there, fine emery or in my case a fibre stick.

Hi Bassfriend,

Your dash panels look great and nothing like a Triumph..

But I'm more interested in where you sourced the replacements (with inscribed figures) for the original coluored LED's...??

Mike.

Remember that it's an early dash so most of those LEDs weren't even there - I've moved most of them up from the radio panel. biggrin

They were sourced from Car Builder Solutions and were about £9 each...

Cheers
