Yep, he's off to do a PHD and concentrate on the electronics side.

The wares of the current business are apparently in the process of being sold to another firm

Hmmm, having done a PhD in Electrical Engineering myself, I hope he know's what he's letting himself in for. The thesis will need to be written to a much better standard than his manuals.

No dis-respect meant and the manual is generally quite helpful but it's not been written in a formal format, more of a chatty, back of envelope kind of style.

A PhD thesis is usually public domain too so all his efforts would be made public and might lose him a commercial angle.

It all depends on what he's writing it about.

I quite like the 'back of an envelope' style. Also, his manuals helped me a few times as did he when spoken to. I wish him all the best. thumbup

I liked his attitude ,always had time and his prices were spot on ..Just looking for these bolts and there about double the price Steve were selling them at !

If it were written like a PHD thesis do you think 99% of chim owners with little or no electrical / mechanical experience would be able to follow it and have a crack at DIY Chim ownership?

I think it was well written for what it is and fit for it's purpose. smile

I know what you mean. I did my PhD in IS systems and it requires you to be very focused on the write up and very clear plus precise about what you are trying to say.

I totally agree - you've seemingly misunderstood me Scotty. Read what I wrote again. I'm not saying that the manual should be written like a PhD thesis, the chatty style is fine for the manual, as macdeb also stated. What I am saying is that you cannot write a PhD thesis in such an informal style, not if you want to pass anyhow.
