I usually use Mobil1 15W50 to top up the engine oil.

Will Mobil1 10W60 "Extended life" be ok as a top-up? (1 litre max)

Thanks

Interested to know as I've a can of this waiting for use too. Going to try using less fancy non-synth (or semi-synth), thick oils next purchase. Got one of the more clattery 5L engines which I'd like to quieten with thicker oil.

Fully synth, high zinc which is essential for the RV8 & very high quality with a strong ASI rating.

At 33 squids it represents unbeatable value for a fully synth & it's perfect for the RV8.

I've been paying that for Millers CSS 20w60 which is a good oil but it is a semi synth.

You can't go wrong with Penrite HPR15.

Yes it will be ok as a top up.
I changed from 10w 50 to 10w 60 extended life in my car and i am very pleased with it.A recent 1500 mile tour thru europe including 1 lap of the ring and 6 laps of spa later and the oil pressure is 60 at start up and never dropped below 50 even at spa, and very little oil use.
Very highly recommended........by me at least.

Pentrite are phasing out 15w60 semi synthetic oil for fully synthetic ,if you get semi its old stock .

if you look on the USA and Australian forums they shout about penrite..

15w60 is perfect for the RV8

Classic Oils are as good as gold.

They have a retail outlet up the road from me in Aylesbury and regularly attend the main classic car shows around the country.

Don't let the website put you off, they are very well known & trusted on the classic scene.

I don't see this myself - the thickness or viscocity of the oil 10w has remained the same, so i don't see how your oil pressure has improved by changing from 10w/50 to 60.

I know each car is different but my 500 with under 20k has never shown more than 40 psi over the past 8 years on start up or when hot - which i think is normal & i'm running 10/50. I have used 5w oil in the past which does give lower pressure when hot ie thinner oil, however, changing from 10/50-60 shouldn't make any difference.

BTW I have just returned from SPA & my pressure was consistent throughout 1500 miles, never dropping below 30 bar

Sorry I should have also mentioned that i changed the oil pressure sender to a non standard TVR item which gives much more accurate readings than the original.
Heres a linky to the thread. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=984...
