Is my starter motor about to call it quits?

Had my car for three years and never any probs geting it started (5l chim by the way). However, three times in a week now the car has failed to start when it has been hot. Basically, I ve got back into the car and turned the car and absolutely nothing has happened. The fan still works and all the electrics etc but no turn from the starter motor. I called Top Cats (thanks for the tip to get it started, guys!) and tried the 'put it in 3rd gear and push it' trick which worked the first two times. But on the third attempt I had to wait 15 or 20 minutes before it would then start. When the starter motor does turn it has no probs at all, and it starts every morning first time. So what i m wondering is - is this likely to be a hot weather related thing, or is it a sympton of impending starter motor doom?!

OH Sounds like a typical "Hot Start" problem,
New starter motor me thinks! Warranty?

Have a word with David Beer (Mod-wise). The solution may not be with a new starter motor or heat shield,it may just be that the wiring between the battery & the starter may not be adequate to draw the current required by the starter motor. The solution may be David's kit, which at £15 quid, is a lot cheaper than a new starter motor (about £250).
I've got the kit on order, as I'm still having this problem even after having a heat shield fitted by Penninsula. Should receive it next week, so I'll let you know how I get on.

why do you not advise to see previous post on the problem, ie "ropey" and " daveP". They are now ok, its a bit to early to say all are the same but surely PH is for " the people" not the advertisers, ok, i take it back.

Do a search and see other posts on the subject.

However in my case with a similar diagnosis, I took it to a specialist and he told me the starter motor was Fecked! But of course yours may not be.

It is not meant to be a knock, but if i had not investigated i would of have had yet another starter motor, whereas a relay in the circuit has cured mine and quite a few others."Power to the people" and all that, in my best "Woolfie" typing.

Not taken as such! My motto is if in doubt taker it to a specialist! OH
