Get a few quotes together the old fashioned way, by phone, so you can discuss with an actual human being. Then, if you would like to stay with your current insurance company, ask if they could match the better price quote. I'm sure they will reconsider their position to keep a valued customer.

If not, feck 'em. Go with a cheaper company but with warning. I doubt a very low premium would want to pay out at top class rates. You takes your choice.

And.... is the effort of phoning round and round and giving details over and over (as on-line co.s would say)that bad, once a year, if it saves you a couple hundred.

I find 'Classic line' give good quotes but I've not had to claim from my own insurance for nearly 20yrs.

One of my best mates lives in Helensburgh and I really want to take the Chim up there one day for a blat around the roads. There are some great ones around and just away from Loch Lomand but my favourite for flowing along is the one out of Helensburgh towards Glasgow that passes through Cardross thumbup

For insurance I use REIS and have one of their agreed value schemes with limited mileage.

I use R@H, with all the mods just over £300

Thats full UK and Euro Break down .

No trackday cover thats the only down fall.

What i do like is if you cancel mid term they pay you back prorata at a cost of £25 .

Breakdown cover is classed as free so you get all of the balance back.

Mannings only wanted to offer me £40 back mid term !

I know the first thing most people seem to think of when insuring is the price.
An assumption that all insurers are equal when you really need them.
It's not just about making the car legal by having it insured, it is also about what happens when 'something' happens.

I have had some 'experiences' over 30 years of sports car ownership.
I can promise you; the true test of an insurance company is not so much it's price, but does it pay out, without hassle, when you need them to, irrespective of fault (real, imagined, or alleged)?

I have had a claim that was paid 4 years after the incident, and a claim that was paid 3 years before liability was established. I know which I prefer.
Both non-fault on my part, but don't forget 'allegations'.

Has anyone recommending a company taken the acid test with them yet?

OP, my sympathies. That company belongs in the bin.
That is nothing short of a scam. I use a broker; same one for 13 years.
They have never failed to get me a good price with the company of my choice, and while it is never especially cheap, they have never messed me around. Address changes have never cost me a penny extra.
They have even managed to somehow negotiate reductions in renewal prices by substantial amounts on the couple of occasions that the insurers have 'got a bit silly'.
I pay 10-15 percent more today than I did when I bought the car 13+ years ago.

I'm with Manning UK and found them to be good.

Surprised it's gone up by that much. I only paid about £400 in total and that's for an under-30 with a recent claim living in London.

Manning renewal £485
Classicline £389
both inc Euro recovery
Mannings then reduced it to £420

worth changing for £30?

Interesting... my Manning renewal came in at £468.14 without roadside/recovery, an increase of £62.10 on last year.

Decided to shop around and obtained the following quotes for comparable cover @ 5000 miles per year with agreed value £17K

Adrian Flux £425
Henderson Taylor £416.49
Classic Line £392.58

Classic line excess is slighly higher than Manning at £250, (£60 windscreen) but includes road side assistance as standard.

I gave Manning the above info to see if they might come back with something more competitive and got the following reply...

"We always strive to provide our best premium 1st time so we don’t price match other quotations. The only details that would affect the premium are the vehicle value and the mileage which both seem to be correct for what you need".
