Anyone else had a problem with them being too small?

Just assembling the rocker gear on my new engine build and the pedestals (which I am re-using) go on to the shafts way too easily! They didn't come off the old shafts without a fight so makes me wonder if these shafts are to spec....
Rockers seem a little loose on there too but I know they are designed to run on a film of oil.

What is everyone else using?

Apparently the originals are like rocking horse st!

Hi Ryan - How is it going.

Mine were very tight to fit, had to put the rockers in the oven and the shaft in the freezer to install because of the fear of chewing bits out of the soft alloy rocker when sliding down the shaft. Mine were genuine LR parts, have heard that some copies cause low oil pressure issues. Andy

As far as i am aware, correct fitting good rockers are now an issue for our engines.

I have read several threads on here lately where people have fitted aftermarket ones and had problems with low oil pressure due to poor loose fit.

Be good for someone to come up with a solution that aint too expensive.

Was there not a discussion on here some time back about loose fitting pattern rocker arms and undersized shafts? Maybe worth a search.

Where did you get your LR parts in Bristol? Might give em a bell and see if they've got any shafts and arms kicking around!

Make sure you have the right size shaft. From memory the choice is 19mm or 22mm. John eales keeps them in stock for reasonable money - we've never had any issues with his stuff.

No idea about the TVR angle, but just about every Landy hereabouts comes from Fews: Click.

Shafts at £151 each are not exactly what I would call cheap... but it's the rockers at £40 each that really push the price up!!

Guess that's the price you pay for old hard to find genuine stock. At this rate I'll be reusing the ones that came off the original engine.

Hold fire and I'll post some pics so you lot can let me know if they look too worn/scratched.

I'm using John Eales end pedestals with standard inteermediate using the old shafts, (in good nick) and a set of steel rockeers sorced through another PHer, (thanks Anthony!).

The pedestal/shaft fit was tighter then a very tight thing needing loads of heat to acomplish fitting.

Pete - how tight were the rockers to get onto the shafts if you can remember? I was on the blower to JE today asking after shafts but they don't have any. They have had some custom made though and will be available after testing for sale, so will keep you updated. Bought a set of the end pedestals though, they seem like a very good idea for high revving cams.

Here's the pics of my used shafts and rockers. I know it's hard to tell from the photos but let me know your opinions:

BTW, running a finger along the shaft you can feel the wear marks but it's only very slight. same with the rockers.

one thing that the nice lady on the phone at JE said was 'oh yeah those pattern rockers are crap - all the oil holes are in the wrong place'

I checked and she's right!! The holes are lined up in the photo and you can see the difference from pattern to orig (steel pattern part on top)

The rockers themselves slid on with minimal play, not tight but what you would expect.

The pedestals are VERY tight and won't go on without heat.

I have a spare set of rockers and shafts from a 5.0 that I don't really want to part with but if you are desperate.......you can replace them later.

Those shafts look quite worn for a performance RV8 build and I don't like the way those rocker pads are breaking up eek
