Y piece off, O2s sensors out, couple of holes all the way through with the SDS, then hammer a small pry bar all the way round to start pealing it away from the manifold, then lots of hammering with chissels, pry bars, air chissel, etc and lots of swearing! Eventually once you get a large chunk out you can sort of fold it in and pry it out. Then just a case of scraping a few bits away, hoover out the manifolds then fire it up with pillow cases over the manifolds to catch any other bits.
Mine went like a lot of others, first took ages second came out pretty quick.

THANKS BIG MIKE 1, WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THE SDS? I WAS TOLD YOU HAD TO REMOVE THE MANIFOLDS, CUT THEM IN HALF, REMOVE THE PRE-CAT, THEN WELD BACK TOGETHER,ARE YOU SAYING YOU CAN DO IT IN SITU? WHAT WAS THE EFFECT ON YOUR CAR AFTER YOU REMOVED YOURS? DID YOU NEED A RE-MAP?

Don't take the manifolds off do it all in situ. SDS drill(long masonary bit). Hard to tell if there is much difference but I'd say slightly more noise and possibly slightly revvier. I did it partly as prevension is better than cure and didn't want them breaking up, plus wanted to try and get a bit more noise.

You dont have to remove the manifolds, but its easier and less risky if you do. Doing them in situ has a risk of parts of the precat going backwards in the manifold towards the engine, if that makes sense. You do not have to cut the manifolds at all to remove the precats. Following the manifold from the engine, just after the point where the four pipes merge into one,and just before the 90 degree bend, is where the precat is.An SDS is just a type of drill. You can use an SDS drill or any normal drill and a mixture of masonary bits, steel bits, chisels and basically anything to destroy the precat and get it all out of the manifold. Obviously do this on both manifolds. The maincat is in the y-piece, so just remove your existing one and if your fitting one of clives it will breathe and sound fantastic. Keep your old y piece and cat and simply swap over at MOT time. Im sure there is no need to remap or anything else, but someone else with more knowledge than me will come along and answer that.
