My 27k miles Chim has just developed a quiet but noticeable engine knock/rattle most obvious on light load at around 3-4000 rpm. At a guess I would say top end. Fully topped up with mobil one. No other problems. Any suggestions?

A rattle or a 'ticking'?
Maybe a cracked manifold? A welding repair will sort that out if it is apparently.

Blowing exhaust gaskets are a very common problem. Listen to the areas around the manifolds with a small bore length of rubber hose or another tell-tale is soot on the spark plug heat shields at the point where the leak is.

If the rattle is at light load, it's not a manifold leak, sounds like Cam /valve train related.
I would get it looked at ASAP as this could prevent further problems.

Thanks. I tend to agree with Mr Sheds but I really wanted someone to say "oh its nothing and won't cost you a penny!" I suppose turning the stereo up isn't really the best long term solution!
Don't wish to complain but how come I get help from 2 sheds when others get help from someone interestingly called 'rude girl'. Sorry, brain just slipped into my underpants.
