Hi All

I'm thinking of a respray in the not too distant future. I really like the look of the cascade colours, indigo and violet on th Sags/Tuscans but not sure it would suit the more curvy/classic Chim?

I'm also considering Formula Red (bright solid red). I'm not sure if it is the photos but some cars look very different shades to each other in the same colour. Is it quite prone to fading?

Thoughts?

I thought that might be the case. I think it looks awesome, imho, when it's deep and glossy but terrible if it gets that slightly pink tinge. Not sure if more recent paint tech has mitigated the issue at all?

depends, is it garaged? old cellulose was terrible for fading, 2 pack not so much, dont know about the new water based stuff. if you regualry seal/wax the paintwork most of them protect against UV. if it is garaged then its not like its out in the sun all day everyday getting damaged by the sun either.

Good point. Yes it's garaged all year round.

Monza red as stated in the owners manual. A beautiful very bright red, that doesnt fade. Mine has had a front end respray almost 5 years ago now, and then only for the usual stone chips. Very easy to keep clean, and even when its dirty it still stands out. Lots of excellent comments at shows and meets mainly about the colour. As all sports cars should be.....Bright red!

Some of the metallic reds fade as i have seen this myself at chatsworth where you could easily compare cars of the same colour. Some had faded, some had not?

That looks lovely, I'm definitely being swayed to the red side. So is monday red a different shade to formula red? Or just different model years? There are a couple in the classifieds that say Formula red but if not seen Monza.

reds usually fade when they are painted in direct gloss(2 pac, cellulose etc) the reason direct gloss reds fade worse than other colours is because the high lead content of red paint, if painted in water base or solvent base coat and then lackered with a 2 pac lacker there should be no problem.(not for many years anyway)

My car could do with a full respray and I was thinking of using the opportunity to change the cars colour from boring green to maybe Kawasaki green or even bright orange paperbag

Most people I mention this to seem to be against it frown

I'd be doing the respray myself so if the colour looks wrong I can always change it...........

Just double checked the TVR handbook that came with the car and it says Monza red. Checked under the bonnet and the paint code is P420. Potato muncher is your man for paint codes and the corresponding colour.

Anyone out there whos handbook says Formula red, if so what is the paint code under the bonnet. They may well be one and the same colour. Or similar colours just different shades.

I have a Tuscan that needs a spray, it's currently the purple/green flip paint but has a lot of scratches and chips. Be warned though if you're considering this, as when enquiring about costs I was told if I wanted to keep the same colour the paint alone is £300 per US pint, which works out around £700/ltr!! Now thinking of a red similar to the Alfa 8C, maybe...

Like this Brett ....

I quite like them in white. Red is a nice option as well, if i was to get mine resprayed though i'd want it to look like it'd been resprayed, so not one of the standard colors that were available.

Just my thoughts ..
