hi all, im wanting to purchase one of clives y pieces, however with my car being an early 430 the manifolds and cat bolt together with 8 nuts and bolts rather than the jubilee type clamps of later cars which clives y seems to be designed for, is there a way i can modify to fit or does anyone know if clive makes a y piece to fit mine? any advice much appreciated, phil.

hi phil, you should have mentioned in your email about your car having the pre cat manifolds, no I dont make y pieces for a precat, and the later manifold y piece will not fit even if you changed the flanges as the manifolds themselves are different.

your only option wold be to fit the later manifolds to your engine, or find someone to make a precat y piece.

do ACT sell them?

Hi Phil, most chim's had cats in the manifold and main cat in the y-piece.I could be wrong scratchchin, but the only chim,s that didn't need cats were registered in Channel Islands, you might have one of those. Mines a '94' 430 and mine has the clamps and the all the cats.
Pre-cat griff's have a manifold with 8 bolts and no cats at all, hence the name
As Clive said, in order to connect Clive's y-piece you require a later manifold with or without cats inside. Best without.biggrin
ACT do stainless manifolds without cats for £765 + vat, it does state that they have flanges to suit original y-piece (ie: clamped). So Clive's y-piece needs to have flanges that fit original manifolds with a cat.But do check with Clive and ACT.
Also do consider the fact that your main cat (y-piece) will probably have to go back on for emissions ( MOT time) if your car was not registered in Channel Islands when new.
Blimey that was complicated, brain hurts now headache.
I hope I got that right, if anyone knows different please feel free, I'll take it on the chin and getmecoat.

Early cars with catalysts (like my '93 Chim) had manifolds with 8-bolt flanges instead of V-clamps.

that is a picture of mine, where did you get that from pearly? think i may be best getting some later type manifolds, removing the pre cats then fitting them with a new y piece, will be alot cheaper than the act ones by the looks of it

Yes 1993 griff 500s, catted V8S and Chims had the 8 bolt flanges instead of the later V clamp, as it happens we are just jigging up to manufacture these inc decat Y's

Sorry just noticed that the OP was asking about clives Y piece, didn't mean to push in, coz Clive is a good bloke smile, maybe he would do a special for you, but quite a task for a 1 off

We are tooling up mainly to produce the V8S manifolds and Y pieces catted for European spec cars, the jigs will be usable for the decat bits also.

The photo was from when it was for sale, one of the cars I considered at the time, I have the pictures of all 430's I found for sale over 2 yrs just in case one came back on the market again when I had the funds available, my memory isn't as good as it used to be.scratchchin
I'm also considering removing pre-cats, but I will be leaving main cat in place, then possibly changing exhaust for ACT cherrybombs. I want to free it up a tad, but not produce to much extra noise.
Replacement of all suspension bushes and possible the shocks is on the list as well, it just depends on which I put the cash to first, then the other may have to wait a while, decisions, decisions.....
