Following on from the broken bolt saga, the motor is all back together.
Time for the big start up and the starter motor went 'click click' then nothing. After checking around found the main lead from the battery was broken at the starter motor. So fixed that (after many sparks)
Have checked the fuses and all are ok. The fuel pump is working.
I am now at the point of putting it on a trailer and letting someone more capable sorting it out.
Is there anything else I could be missing or needs looking at.
Any thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated as the car has been off the road since May. I am at my lowest ebb since owning my Chim.
Thanks
Barrie

I assume that you checked the 100 amp fuses too?

Have you tried hitting the starter motor?

The 100amp fuse is fine and brand new. Talked to Alex yesterday, thought all would be good after fixing the broken lead. Don't know what to do now. Really getting fed up with the whole fking thing.
Could it be by coinsidence that the starter motor is knackered.

May be one near the fuse box, probably on top of the battery, usually 80 amp.

FWIW I had similar a while ago - main feed to the starter motor had broken. Mr RAC came out and checked that the starter motor still span using a separate 12V feed and that the solenoid also energised (sorry, don't know how he this) before fixing the main feed.

I had the hot start mod, so we had to replace the blown 20A fuse there too (I think it protects the solenoid).

Yep this 80 a is the one the 100 amp is only for the alternator protection fuse. The click is the solenoid which is a good sign, it just needs some volts on the starter,

It's not clicking now, it's completely dead. One thing I have noticed is when I set the alarm it beeps three times which it never used to. Could it something to do with the imobiliser. If so, how do you bypass it (PM me if needed)

Before you do a bypass just try disconnecting & reconnecting the battery.

This will re-set the alarm/immobiliser system.

Worth a try, if the re-set doesn't work you really need to do some tests with a multi meter to properly establish exactly what's at fault.

2 hours should give it more than enough time to reset

Beeps from the alarm on locking mean a switch (door, bonnet or boot) is open or the interior microwave is disabled. If there are four flashes on the hazards then it is a switch. Three flashes means it't the interior microwave.

THis is exactly what happened to me when my 100 amp fuse blew - the one that is between the alternator and the battery and is strapped to the underside of the chassis, sort of by the inner end of the rear wishbone mounting, driver's side front wheel area. I actually had driven about 40 miles with it blown, with the speedo reading 45 mph at 3000 revs in fifth. At the end of that leg of the journey I had a pretty flat battery and the alarm was doing its nut beeping a bit every time I tried the ignition. Not enough in the battery to turn the engine over, so I bump started it down a hill and got seven miles before total battery death. It was the fuse, and once it was replaced and the car jump started, all was fine again.

The bonnet is off the car at the momement so that may be the problem with the 4 beeps. Having said that I spoke with Carl and he said that would not effect it.
I will disconnect the battery this afternoon and see what happens. I will also try to put a live to ths 's' spade on the starter motor to see if that turnns it over.
Thanks
