Really enjoying my 4.5 chimaera, but it has a stutter / hesitation on the throttle, maintaining speed and accelerating. I cleaned stepper motor and ordered new temp sensor. Also going to clean air filter. Is there tvr specialist that tunes / maps v8's in Yorkshire?. The car has a few mods, act induction, plenum spacer, carbon trumpets and mark Adams tornado chip but I'm just wondering if they are all working together. lots of pops on deceleration also if that is a clue, although glady listen to that all day smile

Ok, not being a spanner wielder that sounds a bit scary! . When I first got the car the mil light was on. Got home and next day my mate who is a spanner man plugged on ecu reader and fault code was air flow meter fault. He took it off checked it and reconnected.we wanted to see if any additional codes on ecu so followed instructions reset ecu and no further codes. Infact code gone and mil light gone too.attach reader now and no codes showing. Stuck some redex in to clean injectors and give it the beans, purely for giving it a good clear out smile

you're a bit stuck for people who can work with the ecu you have, there's only a couple of people in the country can do it at the moment and they're notoriously difficult to get hold of. anyone else working on the car is limited to tweaking the mechanical things in the engine bay.

do I not have the Lucas 14 ecu? Thought the chip just sat in it, rather than changed it. Probably showing my ignorance again.. Sorry frown

There is absolutely no reason to remove the plenum spacer.

It only serves to lift the plenum roof away from the trumpet mouths, it also increases the overall volume of the plenum by half a litre.

Both are good things.

I would start by getting your mate to check the following:
  • Colour of your spark plugs
  • Air Flow Meter voltages
  • Throttle position sensor voltages
  • Fuel pressure, check the vac pipe & try & test the pressure under load
  • Make sure distributor is advancing correctly with a strobe and suck on the vac advance pipe to see if it moves the distributor base plate & holds the vacuum
  • Finally check carefully for any induction leaks & make sure the crank case ventilation system is working correctly IE the associated pipes & filters aren't blocked or leaking to atmosphere
All the tests, voltages & pressures are explained here:

http://www.actproducts.co.uk/category/lucas-inject...

It's also worth having a read of this:

http://www.britishv8.org/Articles/Rover-14CUX-EFI....

And this:

http://www.g33.co.uk/fuel_injection.htm

You don't need to pay an expensive mapper to look at the car, be systematic and test each of the above in turn against the correct figures.

Do this & it's highly likely you will find what's amiss.

Once everything is working correctly the car should run great, it's just a mornings work with a multi meter, fuel pressure gauge & a strobe.

Thanks again Dave! Just been trawling through paper work that came with car, it is a magna larger t-spacer ( plenum heat isolator) that the car has? Not the same thing as plenum spacer
Sorted the relay out as well on the ignition.smile

Not the same thing - spacer goes under the top part of the plenum and is about a 1.2 cm thick all the way around.

Heat isolator goes under the trumpet base on top of the inlet manifold and is about 2 mm thick
