Very faint high pitched whine...

Has anyone else noticed a very faint high pitched whine coming from their alternator when the vehicle is shut off? (Ignition off.)

I was replacing my wiper motor park switch this evening and heard it - it's so faint it's easy to miss but my landlord confirmed it too.
