With an imminent move to London on the books i'm really struggling to 1: Justify keeping the chim and 2: knowing where to keep it if i do decide to stick with it.

I think realistically it's got to go which i'm gutted about frown I guess if it is to go then at least i've picked a good time of year to sell though !

Your going the wrong way!

I specifically moved from the Londonish area for more space.

With 6 in the family and a few projects we've had ten cars at homebiggrin!

Christ, 10 cars would be a dream. I think i'm unfortunately going to have to trade in the Tiv for a push bike. Depressing times ! I'm sure my time will come again to own another when i'm a little older and move back out of London though. Will be sad to see her go, assuming that she does, though !

If you don't mind me askin AJ, as a fellow London Tiv owner, is the main stumbling block somehwere to keep it? If it is, then there may be ways around that.

It's a bit of both really Stuart. I'm just finding it difficult to justify all the costs when i'm barely using it now when i'm living out of london. Only go in and out of work (3.7 miles each way) during the week and then get the train to London every weekend to see friends or the other half. Can only see usage going down and from everything i read the less you use these cars the more that goes wrong.

I'd rather see it go to someone who's going to get good use out of it as it's been great for me and easily usable as a daily drive.

I'll have another one but just maybe when i move back out and can use it more often.

Ah, got you. I just edited my post after realising it could have been worded a bit less personally! Yes, I was going to say that it is easy enough to find rented drive space or garage if it's space that is the problem but that just makes owning the car even more expensive of course. hmm, tricky one. Good luck AJ and I hope you find a way of making it work. Would be a shame to let such a good looking chim go. Cheers.

Hi,

I Love your Chimaera: it is not often that you see them in white and I thionk tha they are absolutelly gorgeous in white!

I live in London and does not use my Chimera often: between 4 - 8 times a month in the summer and 1 - 4 times a month in the winter, sometimes less (we have another "nomal car" and a Vespa to use).

Currently mine leaves in a Council Garage (4 mines walk from our flat) and costs me just under £ 26 a month, which is so cheap considering that i my garage I have the chimeara and some storage space (at the back of the garage and shelves fited high on the wall...).

My previous Chimaera was parked in the street in London under and all weather cover (not ideall, but douable).

So worth considering parking it in the street with a cover on it or check if you can get a private or coucil garage. Prices vary a lot where you are: before the street parking permit in Camden was costing me over £ 200 a year and now in Brent the Coucil Garage is only just over £ 300 a year)

Also since having a garage I can now insure the car as a classic (giving me much better cover: track cover, fully comp, etc...) saving me so much money that the garage basically is "free" and teh car is safer, less prone to rust, etc...

So it is worth checking out the "garage option" as if like me you get lucky enough to get one, you can actually save some cash...

Good luck!

Cheers Frenchie, yea mine's "garaged" at the moment so i enjoy the cheaper insurance etc. I just think if i was going to keep it i'd want to use it more !

Rob, needs a couple of bits sorting still that i haven't got round to so i'm not being stupid with the price. It'd be one of if not the cheapest on here, i only want to cover what i paid for it about 7 months ago, which is good to say it's only just ticked over 60k

Frenchie, you've just made me choke on my sandwich.... How'd you get a council garage? Costs me £130 pcm to garage my chim. £26, I'm speechless!!

Street parking is possible in London (depending on area, I guess). I street parked mine for the first couple of months. Nothing happened to it but since I stopped using it as a daily, I would rather it was tucked up out of site in a garage.

It really depends where abouts in London, I got a garage in a bad postcode for insurance (W4) for £11 a week which helped. There were many from the council for me to choose from.

(mods - not sure why this was previously deleted?)

Stuarte,

Yes, mots councils have garages that they rent out. Prices vary between councils, I am now paying £ 6.50 or so per week... which is only just over what the street parking permit was costing me in Camden and a garage there was around £ 30 a week.

The problem is that there is usually a long waiting list: I was told about 2 years, so I asked nicely “is there a way of jumping the waiting list…” and the lady at the council came up with a solution… and I got my garage… if you do not ask..., bla, bla, bla….

I was lucky enough that the garage that I got after “jumping the waiting lists” was about 4 minutes’ walk from our flat, how to you English guys say “Bob’s your uncle…?”.

Have a great weekend all and good luck for the Olympics… it looks like the 4th, 5th and 6th place on the medals table keeps on switching between the Brits (roast beef), us (the frogs) and the Germans…

Excellent!!

Yes, got myself on the waiting list yesterday for the local(ish) area. I'll try your trick when they ring me up! An extra £100 month is a lot of beer.

Cheers, Stu
