So my MOT garage provided an cautionary today for some offside rear wheel play. Near side was okay.

They were unable to confirm what this was due to - so what am i most likely to expect - wheel bearing, drive shaft, hub, hopefully not axle or diff related - is there anything common to be found here.......

might be a bit difficult for it to be axle related as it doesnt have one hth :-)

going to be either wheel bearing or bushes, there are bushes in the upright and the wishbones. fairly easy to identify if its wheel bearing. just jack the car up and grab the wheel.

you'll need a pry bar to check bushes.

diff or drive shaft would just give slack in the transmision

FWIW it wasn't the wheel bearing or bushes, the damper bolt had worked slightly loose at the top mounting.

Note to diary - one to check for the future when servicing ....

cool, nice easy fix then :-). loose bolt and knackered bush would give the same symptoms.

surprised a damper bolt worked loose though have the dampers been changed?

yes - the dampers were replaced about 7 years ago - not had a problem previously.

Bolt was not wobbly loose just able to tighten which removed any slack from wheel. Have to keep an eye on bolt to ensure not working loose again. Rear bushes are original but <20k miles & appear good condition. Fronts replaced 4 years ago to keep everything tip top.

Odd one but cheap fix. Thanks
