any advice on a good replacement thats not hugely expensive. car is only a 400 and dont need anything to sexy but something that will last, hoe long shouls it take to fit a replacement

If the clutch is creaking it would more likely be that the realese bearing arm is dry, it can be greased via the hole in the bell housing, this would need doing before the pivot ball breaks through the arm.

if your engine is stock, and your driving is relaxed, stay with a stock clutch. anything else tends to get heavier for no gain

Mines not heavy and , its rated at 340lb torque . I purchased a genuine clutch from a well known TVR supplier for the old 4l ,it only lasted 3 months !

This will last forever on a standard 4l.

as Kevin said a bit of grease and all seems to be fine.. expert opinion says it not in need of replacing just yet.

it would also seem to be the original clutch as i have files full of paperwork and nothing stating clutch has been replaced, car has done 72k what sort of life would one expect from a standard clutch. obviously and impossible question but and average? just seems alot of miles on an original clutch.

Cheers

Hi Milky400. Mines done 89k seems OK, thought of replacing it but it was a lasy slave cylinder. I guess if you have clutch slip or juddering when pulling away it's time for replacement. Cheers John042.
