stonechips.. they've nearly all got them (£595 + vat for a f/e respray)

complete new carpet interior £235 + VAT

leaks.. they ALL do that sir. (well just about)

Price.. not at all bad.

'95 4.0

Depends enitrely on the price and the condition of the individual car, how many miles it has done, has thw owner looked after it.

From what I've heard the 4.3 isn't that much of a difference to teh 4, but I stand to be corrected

Nevin, how are those orthopaedic shoes then?

Theoretical figures: 4.3 = 280bhp, 305 ft/lbs. 4.0 = 240bhp, 270 ft/lbs. That is quite a difference.

But in answer to the original question it doesn't really matter what size engine. Just get a good car! Thje 95 4.0L is probably the better bet.

I'm sure I read in the bible that during '95 the T5 gearbox and a better diff were introduced, thats why I'm after a '95 or later car.
If you havn't got Steve Heaths book you should get one (available from tvrcc, amazon etc) It gives loads of info on the history of the cars and buying advice as well as being similar to a haynes manual.

I have had a 95 4.0 and a 93 4.3 - the 4.3 realy surprised me how much quicker it felt!
But I know there is a bit of variation in them and you can get very quick 4's too - not much help but if you get a 4 and 4.3 in similar condition I know what I would choose...

I realise that condition of the actual car has to be the most important factor but I was just hoping to get a feel for the comparison between 4.0 and 4.3. Also any mods to look out for on later cars.
