Just had the wizzard Carl Baker fit the new Meta system, with integrated key/fob etc.

He went through all the wiring, new alarm box etc (commissioned by him with increased delay before immob kicks back in, ability to turn off sensor if roof is off etc).

Very happy with the results, can now unlock the car in one go from a "normal" distance without standing there like a tt for 2 mins, and the key also has a remote boot (yellow button) as well.

Highly recommended if your system is getting tired.

(Ignore the grey thing thats my garage opener).

Ah yes I spoke to him about this too but my alarm seems to be behaving itself these days. What re-wiring did he do?
Did he fit the automatic window lift too?

Carl did the same job on my 450 earlier this year. Top job. I'm well pleased with the new set up. Being able to open the boot without opening the driver's door first, turning on the ignition and then pressing the button is just fantastic.

Carl also suggested that it would be a good idea to replace the fuel pump relays at the same time. He did this and I am sure that the engine is pulling more strongly at the top end now. Fuel pump operating more efficiently possibly??

Also, no more hot start problem as Carl refitted my hot start kit properly. 32 degrees at the weekend, engine very hot, turned off and turned on a few minutes later - no problem.

Carl's the man. Thouroughly nice bloke too.

What was the cost if you don't mind me asking? I need to get mine done, I'm fed up with the original boot opening system banghead

I used to know Carl a while back, he is a top bloke and really knows his onions.

Mine was slightly subsidised by Fernhurst as they were originally paying for one keyfob to be replaced as part of sale.

Every installation is slightly different too, but in my case (before subsidy) a little over £400 plus the unavoidable Vat.

Unlike having paint work done, or work on the suspension, this sort of work is mostly un-noticed, but it is a full day of work for Carl, by the time he had done the handover it was about 7pm, so I think in terms of labour and parts it is excellent value.

It does seem any car on an original alarm/immob is on borrowed time these days.

The above price was to supply and install a new meta system HPATI alarm/Immobiliser, with boot release and 2 key conversions including all the labour.

Great, thanks.

It's a lot of money but like you say, very good value considering the work/time involved. Carl's knowledge of the TVR wiring 'system' (term used very loosely!!) cannot be challenged either, which is another bonus.

I think I'll ask him to do this work, and fit a hot start kit/fresh relays at the same time.

U can operate the locks from a distance??!! Where is the fun in that! Mine you have to open and close both doors ( even if U never opened the passenger door!) then walk round it a few times pressing the button, whilst trying not to look like your stealing it until finally it locks. Easy :-D I found aiming at the tax disc from about 30 cm does it!.

He said he very rarely sees a car that actually has a hot start problem...

Try holding the fob against your head - this amazingly works, I assume it makes your head an antenna. Your hair may fall out but hey, think of all the time saved.

That works a treat - its great in a car park when you show somebody who doesn't know the trick! Usually better results will be seen on your every day runner though!

I had Karl fit a new alarm for me last month.

Edo your car was at Karls when I went to pick mine up! Nice car btw!

I paid £540, which sounds like a lot but it is a whole days work for Karl. He finished mine about 8.30pm.

I spent a couple hours chatting with him while he finished off. Very interesting guy, I learnt a lot.

It's almost worth it for the remote boot release, so handy!

Ah good stuff, thanks. Which car was yours?

Like you I learnt a lot off Carl. I cant remember how many TVRs he said he had worked on but IIRC it was comfortably 4 figures.

I may need his help to install a nav unit, if I ever find a decent single din unit that still gets map support!

A friend has a 450 Chim which Carl worked on before he bought it - to open the boot, he holds the button under the mirror for 2 seconds and it pops open! I like that but apparently Carl doesn't install these systems any more (reliability/cost issues?). The remote key is probably better and more convenient anyway as you can open the boot on a standalone basis rather than the door and the boot.

He is the only person I trust with electrics on our cars. Great bloke and will travel if required, at cost. We're near Birmingham and he's travelled up to help us twice.

If you get hold of an old Pioneer Avic-X? it is still supported with maps. Or you can buy their current flip up model and add the satnav module, also supported.

Thanks.

Just not abig fan of the flip screen jobes, as you then have another box with nav.

I quite like the Blaupunkt Rome (had one in the Elise) or the Beker 9x series, but neither have map support moving forward.

If I was an i-we I would get one of those Oxygen thingies, but my work supplied phone is a BB.

Head units would be the AVH-5300DVD or AVH-6300BT Navigation module is the AVIC-F220, which is about the same size as a fag packet and can be shoved anywhere.
