I have been offered this power steering rack which I am told (by two different people) is for a Griff or Chimaera. However,I have only seen ones which are all aluminium, not with a steel centre section like this. The rack width (ball joint to ball joint) and the mounting hole centres are the same as the aluminium rack and also it is the same 2.1 turns lock to lock.

Anyone know anything about this type of rack or what year/model it was used on? Advice will be appreciated.

Sorry I can't help much, other than to say my chim is a '99 and the steering rack looks completely different. As you say, it's ali and doesn't have that steel tube.

I think that's an early one. If my understanding is correct TVR made that first then progressed to their own casting over the years.

Strange why did my comment about never having seen one like that on a Griff or Chim and it looking like it was made from scaffolding tube (which it does) disappear?

ETA Ah... you've posted in the Griff forum as well biggrin

I also think it may be an early one, Kiley Clinton say that it may be based on a Rover SDI rack.

As posted on Griff thread I had one of these off a crashed N reg Chim. Had a sticker on to say it had recently been rebuilt, I paid £100 for it ;-)

Trouble is, you can't get parts for the all ally ones either.

The pinion and rack bar are obsolete, so play in those areas can't be sorted frown.

Thanks everyone for the advice and info. about my 'scaffold' steering rack. Consensus of opinion is that it's from a Griff/Chim up to '94 ish. I spoke with Roger Clinton at Kiley Clinton (very helpful guy) and he said not to worry about using it as all TVR racks are c**p anyway!
