Your car must nearly be a Vauxall with the non TVR parts on it big geoff? Anyway I thought you're an advocate of discarding plug extenders and the possible problems they can cause? Cheers J C

do the extenders have any purpose - other than the obvious one?
I have just ordered some new plug leads and the plug ends are really long so was thinking of whether I could ditch the extenders???

What's the obvious one?

They were originally fitted to Vauxhall Cavaliers in the 80's (my dad had one), and the idea was that they stopped the leads breaking down under the heat from nearby exhaust manifold - that's the obvious one AFAIK.

You can buy sort of heat shield 'socks' to go over the leads - not sure if you could ditch the extenders and use these instead?

Yes you can ditch the extenders. The socks protect twice as much lead as the extenders offer and its one less connection to give potential problems.

I still think that ideally you want plugs that have a 135 degree angle boot on them to keep the lead away from the manifolds...
