With this in mind I did a bit of research at the Oulton track day on Saturday. And the response was pretty good.
Funnily enough I've just been talking to a good friend of mine who is an upholsterer to see if he was prepared to cover them (The answer was yes)
Anyway I digress, now that my upholsterer has said yes and given me a price, I've also priced the tube and the bending and welding operations, and I'm confident I can offer the following options.
1. A bare steel tube roll bar and you paint it chrome it, poweder coat or whatever takes your fancy and fit it yourself. Price will be 175.00.
2. Covered in leatherette to match your interior and fitted for 350.00.
To make this project viable I need to make 10 roll bars or it's just not worth doing, judging by the interest I received on Saturday I think it could be a goer. But people showing interest and actually parting with their cash are two different things
So what do people think? I would be very grateful for any feed back.
As a first step I plan to remove my roll bar this week end so I can take proper measurements and start making jigs etc. I'm then probably going to make a couple of bars come what may, and see what if any problems I encounter trying to refit them into my car.
I plan to iron out any issues on my car before any other bars are produced, but if all goes well I could be up and running by christmas.

OK!! Aren't some roll bars just cosmetic, whereas others would actually provide structural support in the event of a roll?

I also remember reading somewhere on a site of a company that claim to make the only ones that provide real support that other types can interfere with the movement of the seat, and so pose problems for taller drivers who need the seat right back....

What would be the extra for stainless as I wouldn't want it to rust underneath after it's been covered in nice leather.
I'd definately be interested as yours looks like one of the best I've seen. It is one thing that we have to get done as I'm starting to think more and more of the consequences if it did happen.
Presumably you'd fit it someone near you?

Andy if you talk to me i can produce s/steel ones with a 6mm wall, i could do you a few if you lend me your jig 
if you look in jan edition of retro cars mag center pages thats my old alpine look at the polished roll bar this was designed to fit accuratly to the roof and set back as not to bump your head in a rear shunt

Nice one Andy, I would have thought this ought to be a very popular option for a lot of TVRists, esp the sprint and track day fraternity. I for one am very interested in one of your proposed bars. I presume there is no interference with the function of the roof etc.. Please let me know (and the rest of us!)as/if and when these become available.

I'll commit now if you can do a stainless jobbie. I know Steve is on the case so keep me informed. If stainless is too costly then I'd need some sort of coating applied to protect the steel. As you know the car is used daily and we don't have a garage so the car will be exposed to the elements.

I'll commit now if you can do a stainless jobbie. I know Steve is on the case so keep me informed. If stainless is too costly then I'd need some sort of coating applied to protect the steel. As you know the car is used daily and we don't have a garage so the car will be exposed to the elements.

LA, I think you may have missed something!
The bars are intended to be functional, but because of the expense and hassle of proving they ARE, they would have to be sold as "cosmetic". I'm prepared to accept that a sufficiently solid, well manufactured roll bar made from pukka materials and mounted properly to the absurdly strong TVR chassis at its strongest point has more that a passing chance of doing more good than harm in the event of a roll over. I'd want to see one "in the flesh" and check out the mountings, fit and finish etc before fitting one obviously, but if it looks right it probably is right in my book, whether its been destruction tested or not.
We're not talking about polished alloy hoops bolted to the floorpan (of the type ofter seen adorning TT roadsters and Z3's)!
