My Chimaera needs a new exhaust after a slight altercation with a tree, see here for piccies:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Anyway, I am pleased to say that I now have the car back and the bodyshop have done a great job - I'll try and post some photos soon. In the meantime I need to source another exhaust - preferably a sports exhaust of some description. Another option is to get my own made as new they seem to cost around £650. I wouldn't actually tackle this job myself, but my rally car is just having a custom made exhaust fitted so I thought I could try the same with the Chimaera. Any views or experiences? Does anyone have photos of different style tail pipes? Thanks.

Guess you could go for having the tail pipes exit at a different angle .. the crash picture shows them at an unusual angle smile

Fairly limited on mods given the cut outs in the rear bumper, unless you want to do soem major work. Personally I wouldn't bother. Plenty can be done to the system without changing its external appearance.

Agreed. Standard exhaust with the silencers removed = winner! It's MUCH cheaper too as the insurance will pay for standard exhausts and you can have them sleeved for less than £200...

That leaves £450 towards bigger brakes to help you avoid trees when they jump out at you!! scratchchin

I agree on saving the cash - mines standard (pre cats and main cats in place) but with two cherry bombs welding inside the original silencer box. Personally think it sounds better than any other Chim I've heard, but obviously I'm biased wink couple vids although they don't really show the grumble properly.
I think get the decat Y peice and then just change centre silencers, performance gain and the noise

hi mate, they were from eBay, seller called ccr-ltd
12" total length with a 8"x3" diameter center with a slip joint on each end. I got this info from some posts on PH but i'm not sure they were 100% correct size as my mate welded them in and said it took him a while making them fit

i've read lots of conflicting information about cherry bombs but haven't actually seen any proof of power loss, if anyone has some before/after dyno's though i would be a believer

I was on the rolling road at the Growl with my standard exhaust and then went on again after I'd put the ACT cherry bomb quad exit system on, albeit the year after but the same dyno, and the torque and bhp were almost identical so in my case it is purely hearsay.

There are cherry bombs and cherry bombs ..The one`s made with perforated pipe and wadding are fine but the ,both can be red in colour ..

V8Rob
"glass packs are different to aka cherry bombs, glass packs in general use what can described as a horse shoe that collects the sonics and gasses to direct them into the glass, this plays havoc with flow, cheery bombs are more just a little box with perforated tubes."

This was my finished product (ACT COPY)
Some guy fabricated both the silencers up in about an hour .

Rolled SS sheet metal, perforated pipe and wadding then loose the silencer box .

The system is 2 tubes which go into the standard box then once inside, the 2 pipes are perforated pipes with wadding stuffed in all around them, then are solid pipes again on exit...

On mine, which I believe the expression is 'sleeved', the silencer box was opened up, stuffing removed, perforated pipes cut out, straight through's welded in, silencer welded shut again.

I saw it done when I worked at Racing Green.
