Door opening Button under mirror

The one on the drivers side has died and so I just wondered if anyone had any ideas where I can buy replacments? I have tried the usual and it comes out at £32.05 for 2 (thought I would buy a spare)when you include post and packing! Seems a little high.
Also has anyone fitted them as there is no mention in the "Bible" ?
Im guessing that the mirror glass needs to come out

Are you sure it isn't the door solenoid that has failed? You won't feel a clicking if it has. On mine, it was the solenoid behind the door catch at the back if the door frame that had gone.

I concur...I thought that the button on the passengers side had gone, but after a fiddle about it turned out to be the solenoid sticking!

Thank you. Guess what its all working again! I'll check the solenoid this evening, however, the door still opened with the ball in the centre console. Would this still be the case if the solenoid was knackered?

Yes the ball will always work.

Mine was like this, when I replaced the door speakers I found that there is a connector in the cable from the button to the loom and it was loose, pushed it together till it went click and all working.

Unless one of the cables has snapped. I found this when turning the knob to the left would open the RHS door, and turning it to the right didn't do squat.

Exactly - the ball is cable powered, the buttons under the wing mirrors are electric. I still think the OP's problem may well lie with the solenoid (known to fail) rather than the button itself

I watched as the man who knows what he is going changed mine, and firstly it is located in the car body where the door catch locates when you shut the door, i.e. not in the door itself, and secondly, he had to do some soldering of wires to finish the job. Solenoid wasn't expensive (under £50).

Door solenoids are actually available from Maplins for less than a tenner.

I just wondered if you managed to fix your problem?

My driver's door seems to be sticking/getting worse more and more often. I now have to press the mirror button a few times or even hold the button down for a second or two until it eventually operates.

When I find some time I'll have a dig and try and define if it's the door solenoid or the switch itself. I just wondered if you managed to solve your problem.

Your symptoms are exactly as mine were - and a new door solenoid means that it opens first time every time now. But I'm no expert.....

I replaced the door button on mine some years ago; remove the mirror glass then fairly straight forward if a little fiddley - you will be required to do a little soldering. Remember to replace the retaining nut over the wires before you solder.

Well its still working (well it was this morning!) and so I am waiting for it to fail again so that I can see which part is actually on the way out.

Try unplugging the solenoid and plugging back in again, wires can be accessed through the flap behind the seats.

Mine had been doing this recently, but as I replaced the solenoid 6 months ago I though the button was faulty. But it turns out that when my new door mirror was fitted 4 years ago they had used crimped bullet connectors to join the wires. They werent making good contact, just pulled apart , pushed back together all sorted now.

Wires can be reached through the door speaker, might be worth checking you dont have a similar bodge causing issues.

Anyone ever find an alternative source for the weather covers for these buttons? All the ususal suspects seem to want some trouser down action for one, especially on postage...
