Central Locking and Alarm Woes after deep discharge
Discussion
I blame the piss-wet summer. The Tiv's been in the garage. We'd been using it a lot and then not at all. SOMEHOW keeping it on trickle charge got missed. It went eight weeks or more.
A week back I tried to fire her up - to no avail. s
t, I thought, battery buggered. Might as well try the trickle charger. AMAZINGLY I came back after a week and it had charged back up! Got in, fired her up. Nice.
Down side: I had to use the separate immobiliser dongle. And the central locking, boot opener and alarm aren't listening to the plipper. Admittedly in order to start her up I did have to "break in" (the method I will not describe on here). I changed batteries in the plipper - no better.
So now the car should be operational but isn't: I think because the alarm battery backup is knackered - maybe?
Any thoughts or recommendations for an alarm specialist would be most welcome. It is the original TVR fitted system into a 98 'S' plate Chimaera.
13 years of ownership and this happens. Bah.

Dis connect the battery leave for 2 minutes and reconnect the battery you should then find the alarm has reset and all should be well.
It's a pain to do but it works

Wot he said, but when you reconnect the battery, press one of your key fobs, this will reset and sync the fob. Pain to do, but is does work. It's a pain to do but it works

Thanks for the replies, chaps.
I had a go at getting in at the battery yesterday. Needless to say the description in the Steve Heath book did not resemble my car at all!
Every one unique...
Anyway - suffice to say I failed. I'm going to get it along to my local chap at the end of the week and let him have a go...but I'll pass on the alarm reset clicker wisdom.

Don, tha battery should be in the passenger foot well. All you need to do is disconnect the earth lead
And leave for ten seconds, then reconnect cleanly and smartly.
Be ready with the key fob as the alarm will be armed.
When the battery gets very flat the alarm gets its nickers in a twist
And gets out of synch with the imobiliser. Disconnecting the battery does a complete reset.
Hope this helps.
Paul.

Well - today we enlisted our local chap's help. Disconnected the battery. Waited a while. Reconnect.
Nope. Still no joy.
Anyone know a good, preferably mobile, alarm/TVR specialist near Basingstoke in Hampshire?
I think it may be a whole new jobbie as the plipper I have is already made out of the working parts from the original two...has anyone replaced the TVR original fit alarm/immobilser? And made it work with the central locking?

I thought I'd post back on what the fix was. Our local guy called around the old TVR dealerships and got some advice. The answer was to get inside the dash and physically disconnect the alarm control unit and then reconnect it doing the plipper thing - just disconnecting the car battery wasn't enough.
So - apart from the work our local chap (who I recommend thoroughly, RT Gaiger of Basingstoke) - we got away with replacing nothing. The battery still holds charge etc.
The old girl lives again! We won't be forgetting to put her on trickle charge again, I can tell you!

Thanks Paul, top tip! My chim would turn-over but refused to fire-up. I spent ages checking fuses, relays, ignition etc., all to no avail. I noticed the absence of the fuel pump priming when the ignition was turned-on, and was wondering how to access the power terminals of the pump to check for current - car standing on gravel drive so not ideal for jacking! I then remembered that the alarm had been triggered by recent high winds and wondered about the immmobiliser. I tried disconnecting the battery to reset the alarm/immobiliser, no joy.
I then found this thread - re-connected battery, pressed alarm fob immediately, it just seemed too easy but it works - brilliant!

Could be the fix I need if the reset doesnt work. Where abouts in the dash is the control unit?
