Just popped to the shops and the rad seems to be weeping (top corner where top hose connects, near the rivet)

Where does one find a replacement and how much? frown

I had min re- cored last year and repaired for £160. He did a really decent job and it was as good as new on its return.

I used this guy earlier this year

You get £60 back when you return the old rad.

I used them too the other week - ordered it off eBay on the Tuesday while mine was billowing steam out of the bonnet and it was with me on Thursday (but I did ask them to try to expedite it).

Looks a good quality recore - thicker than the standard core by about 5mm so I had to redril my fan mounting plates...

Hi people!

I'm new to piston heads and got my first TVR last year...love it!

It is a 1994 4.0L Chimaera (pre-serpentine).

However I think I need some work on my radiator. It has some signs of weeping coolant (green stains that have been evident for a while, but nothing that seems to have gotten noticeably worse) and I managed to conduct a schoolboy error, shearing off the bleed screw as the rubber washer had hardened and wasn't sealing well!! http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/7.gif

The car does tend to overheat a bit, steam from the header cap (on the swirl tank on this model) when it gets over 90 sometimes (have tried new caps and none are great, where my thinking being the pressure can't be so high at 90 deg??) so was thinking possibly there's a rad problem and pressure building up before the rad or something?

Anyway theres my story. The bleed screw was initially soldered on by TVR on these older rads. So if not a new rad, that would need fixing and a re core....

...I live in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey (sometimes middlesex), and wondering if anyone knows a good place to have this radiator re-cored and re soldered for a good price and high quality?

And if any of you legends might suddenly think I might be looking at a different problem please do let me know your thoughts :-) I love the car and want to be running it especially now its getting cold!

Thanks piston headers and look forward to hearing from you

Is your rad still leaking?

Car cooling systems run under pressure to increase the boiling point of the coolant. If you are loosing pressure it might just be that the coolant is boiling - so there may not be an issue.
The temp gauges can be inaccurate (mine is 10degrees below ECU temp via Ecumate).

If it is getting that hot, are the fans cutting in? If not, the fan connections or tater switch might be your problem
