Do you have to recode the alarm remotes on the Chimaera?
I have replaced the batteries in both remotes today as the range was lacking, now I have one working remote and one that doesn't
Any clues?

Check the batteries with a meter: 'new' batteries are often not so new. ;-)

I am brilliant.....at putting silver oxide batteries in upside down, or managing not to make a proper contact with the electrodes. Now where did I leave my glasses....?

I had exeactly the same problem with my Tuscan last week. I searched the internet and came across the Meta alarm 16 button push method to re-code the key.

Scruggs, is that arm and disarm 8 times and then press the button on the remote that isn't working or something else? I've tried this, but no joy either :-(

^^^^^^^^ What he said.

I'm down to one fob after changing the batteries due to poor range. Tried recoding twice but nothinng and the new batteries are fine.

If it is a faulty fob can I just buy a new one and then recode it myself?

You need to speak with Carl Baker.

If you have an original alarm it is ste, and WILL die completely. The factory even wired it in wrong.

Well went through the learning the remote procedure again tonight, but by mistake I pressed the remote that hasn't been working on the 8th set of the alarm and it worked.  Whether I'd just been following the procedure incorrectly or not I don't know.  Either way back to 2 remotes working :-)

RIght I'll try seven with my working fob and then the eighth with my other one and see how we go!
