I know there must be previous threads on this but PH search is down (again). Got in the Chim coming back from a show at Belsay and it would not unreel at all so after about ten minutes trying to persuade it I drove home without it, feeling very unsafe!

Any ideas of the fix?

Get out of the car, having moved the seat forwards first, and gently persuade it to unlock. I have this problem most of the time, and my seat being right back doesn't help.

Hmm, tried all that, as like you, it often needs gentle persuasion - but just not having it this time.

Mine occasionally jams, if the ground you're on isn't level the mechanism can lock up, so just moving to level ground will sometimes solve it. Alternatively I have found gently pulling repeatedly the belt will usually eventually free it.

(And no Alex, we don't need any tugging jokes)

Mine used to do this.

paperbag I hit it a few times with a smash and it's been fine ever since.

Same here,, slight uphill incline and it locks up, find myself having to unbuckle if i come to a junction so that i can sit forwards to see around the corner.

It's a case of "TADT (They all do this) Sir" , usually when on an uphill incline.

When mine sticks I find feeding all the slack in by hand until it is fully rewound releases it.
Worth a try

Or on a noticeable side tilt.
Passenger side is slightly more sensitive than the drivers side on mine.
Move the car a few inches from the curb levelling it out slightly, and all works again.

If it's at all reassuring, it was like that from new. "TADT"+1

I'm so used to it now, I think I would miss it if it wasn't like that.

Cheers, sorted now. although I tried all those things on Sunday and it wasn't having it but worked last night - mind of it's own.
