Just been looking through the PH TVR owners list, I can’t remember seeing this category before.

I am intrigued, was this a track day only special or is this car run on the road, is it still running? I would love to see the result in the flesh!

The engineering involved in a LS transplant is complex/expensive so I can only think that an APJ V8 install must surpass this in all departments. I assume if this were to be a road only car, running it would be very similar to that of a Cerbera of similar engine size/age/mileage etc.

I wonder how would a die hard TVR owner look on this car if it were to ever appear in the PH classifieds. I am sure the thought of owning an all British design and built 2 seat soft top would appeal to a number of Chimaera fans!

I don’t think I will ever be able to save up enough to buy an F type.

This has come up for discussion in the last year.
Sorry can't find any links now.

It's certainly been done. One Chimaera and one Grief (that I know of).
Plus the TVR Griffith that was used to test the combination originally.

I am told it gets quite expensive.

It was always my dream combination, to the extent that I asked TVR to build me one back in 2000 / 2001.
I got a quite resounding 'no' for an answer.
Sadly, and foolishly I think now, I let the idea go at the time. I always wondered later; "what if I'd pushed a little harder?"
At the time, I was quite willing to pay Cerbera prices for a Chimaera, if it had that engine, and I probably didn't make that clear enough.

There are a few people here about, that can give you a list of good reasons not to do it. And who am I to say, it may be the best advice.

I don't think it would actually be cheaper than an LS conversion, but I think it's a noble endeavour myself.

It may not be as expenisve as you think if you are a reasonable home mechanic and have a few mates with other trades to help out with things like electrics ect.

I put an ajp into a griff a few years ago,

in all I think it cost me in the region of £8k, which included a new emerald ecu to manage the engine, but all of the mechanical and welding work I did myself.

Thanks for that Clive.
I couldn't find the link.

One tiny criticism though, looking at your 'home built' exhaust, I get the feeling you are perhaps a little beyond "reasonable home mechanic" scratchchin

As I said above, it's my dream combination. A 100% TVR based solution to getting a bit extra out of the Chimaera / Griffith.

To me at least, when modifying a car like this, it isn't just about getting more power, it's the elegance of the solution. A point often lost by those in search of some extra horses.

Or just buy a Chimaera if one hankers after a Rover engine, and leave the Cerberas with AJPs or Speed Sixes!
