4.0 or 4.0 HC - HOW TO TELL?

Dear TVR freaks,

I finally plucked up the courage and bought myself a 1995 Chimaera 4.0. Wasn't surprised when the first electrical gliches started after about, ooh, a day - and the battery needed some juice.

When I pulled the ECU out of its oh-so-practical home (sat on top of the battery, with corrosion well under way on the casing), it had the following painted crudely in white on it. "40L HC". Anyone know what this means and if I have stumbled across an HC by mistake? The casting in the engine bay simply says "400".

By the way, I've got a BIBLE and it doesn't help me on this topic.

hiya,

i've got a 400 HC (high compression) chimaera.

"HC" is etched on the top of the engine under the "400".

not sure as to the difference as to performance, if any, as compared to the 400. I'm sure someone knows though.

HC = High lift camshaft

It seems all 4 litre ECU's are the same, I had a replacement one fitted ( brand new , under warranty) and it too is marked 4.0 HC, I was told they are all the same.
The badge on the engine is worthless as it can be replaced for less than £10, so coul dhave been changed
