Interesting reading the other post on here regds mods , seems this has been modded up then laid up. Can't think it will sell for that money.

I know this isn't a very popular view on here, but could it be that the man sunk a load of money in this car right after purchase, then decided it wasn't very nice (read: scary) to drive?

400 bhp from a genuinely streetable Rover sounds about 50 too high to me, anyway...

I saw that yesterday.

Regardless what you think about the upgrades he could have made an effort with the ad and pictures.

Fiexed that for you. Even with that '60 year old engine', this in all likeliness represents what us car hacks describe as 'an engine in search of a chassis'. smile

Perhaps selling it for a friend and he has made no effort as he wants it for himself?? If outriggers etc done then at 31K miles with a little tlc would be a great car...

400hp seems a little unlikely...
5.5 with a triple plenum built by Rob? I'd say 400bhp is perfecly reasonable.. You can go a fair bit higher than that with less displacement if you spend the money... I suspect he just built it with money made offshore or from a travelling job and never has time to use the thing as he's away with work. Its a pretty common cause, and I wouldn't assume from the off that something's wrong with it. Sure it will need some recomissioning but with a decent valet and a 12k service I'd have thought you'd have a hell of a car.

Chassis can be stiffened up in some way ...who made the decision that the chassis can`t cope with 400hp .

The chassis can`t cope with 200hp ,it`s rubbish ..but we live with it ..

Watch this all the way through ..I would like to know what Sportmotive are changing with there new chassis..

Why would only be 350 when mine will be 350 after the nest tuning session.

Why can't the chassis cope with it??? Mine puts out 400bhp and it feels pretty fine to me...? If you put the right suspension and brakes on to match and run with some sticky tyres, there is no problem putting to the power down unless you're stupid with it. If anything the car could use a bit more power as you get used to it after a while.

On the subject of engines, I know some of the Tuscan boys are talking about 450bhp out of 5L's at the moment so I don't see how a 5.5 can't make 400? Sure it would cost a lot, but if you're going to 5.5 then the chances are you're ticking all of the option boxes in terms of engine internals etc. Probably worth emailing the seller and asking for a rundown of the engine spec and a dyno plot if possible.

A friend of mine also has one of these 5.5lt Chim, believed to be only 10 made by ROb, his reads 389bhp 440ft with the same mods as this one, I've seen it on a RR and eek My car with the same mods but still a mear 5.0lt at 305bhp is not a patch on it on the road. Boy does it pull I wish I had the spare cash.

Because the extra capacity does nothing for max power, except for getting the rpm level at which max power is being made down to levels that are more comfortably within the remit of the RV8 architecture.

The maximum achievable level (N/A) is determined by what the heads can flow, and on the Rover engine 400 bhp will require some rather radical porting and cam timing that do not really sit easily with road driving - especially when breathing through a plenum rather than individual throttles...

And indeed, there will be quite some difference between what cars will make at SRR (or the two places I'm familiar with over here) and some other well known venues that I won't name save to say that their 'at the wheels' figures will closely correspond with SRR's 'at the fly'...

And just out of interest, who is running 450 in a Tuscan?

Edited by leerdam23 on Wednesday 19th September 09:01
None yet (and I'm refering to Tuscan Challenge), but I know a couple of the class B guys are starting to look at big power Rover V8's as a serious alternative to an AJP race engine for moving up to Class A. There are a few now making a reasonably easy 325bhp at the wheels (380ish at the fly) from a decent but not mental built engine.
