Rough running.... any ideas?
Discussion
Hi,
Well, since getting my Chim back from a service it's been running none too well...
on tick over it's fine... not a problem, apart from the usual "lumpy" feel under 2,000 RMP, no doubt due to a more agressive cam.
1st and 2nd gears are fine, throuought the rev range, but 3rd, 4th and 5th are, for want of a better word, stuttery...
any ideas?
thanks in advance,
Jeff

Tim,
I had an engine rebuild with new cam in december 03.
all was running fine, then had service done in May time... since then it's been distinctivley rougher, as i remember, it was like that once i got home. it's VERY noticeable. I'm not mechanically minded, so i don't really have a clue, but yes, i know i'll need a re-map and a rolling road session. Thing is, i really do doubt that doing that would solve the problem, as it is so pronounced.
It's almost like a severe loss of power, as if i'm running on 5 or 6 cylinders. 1st and 2nd gears are fine, no problems at all, it's just when i get in, or above, 3rd gear. Very lumpy, i'd say almost the same sort of symptoms and running out of fuel... you know, almost a kangaroo effect, just not as extreme. Definitive power loss is felt though.
It was running as smoothe as the proverbial babys bum before the srevice... it's just extremely frustrating, as i can't play with the other cars on these lovely german autobahns
i'm more inclined to think maybe a temp sender of sorts, or some other electrical part has failed as it seems to be slightly more pronounced as the car gets to correct operating temp. Remember, i warm up my Chim as it's supposed to be, and only have semi nailed it in 1st and 2nd when at the correct operating temp.
