Folks, the drivers side indicator on the wing has given up on me and I need to know how to replace the bulb in it. It is a fried egg style one with the yellow bulb if that makes any difference.

Yes, I know I should already know the basics such as this but it isn't obvious to me how the light comes out/off the wing or how access to it is obtained????

Do I just "lever" it off using a small bladed screwdriver and a clip of some sort releases or is there another TVR specific approach involving contortionism in some form and/or the removal of several panels?

Cheers in advance.

They basically just wriggle off if you start from the front edge and push it towards the back a bit.

The rear of the holder unscrews for lamp replacement, no need to remove the whole unit as lens should be bonded to body.

Is the plastic lens orange or clear/white ? If its orange its an original item and should just pull/wiggle out. If its clear/white then its probably aftermarket and may be glued on with a thin stick foam pad.

If its the latter you will need to cut around very carefully with a craft knife to release the lens from the glue, then pull off , replace bulb then blue back on. Tigerseal or windscreen sealant will do a good job of sticking this type back on.

Post a pic of the indicator so we can see if its OEM or aftermarket

Cheers for that, will try and post a picture up when I get home but the plastic is clear white and the bulb is orange on my car. At least the idea of using a thin sticky foam pad is more attractive that panels off and arms shredded biggrin

Hi Grey Ghost...
Just wondering what you had to do as noticed my drivers side wing indicator is not working.

Mine is also the converted clear lens and don't want to start taking off until I have at hand what Dodsy suggests.

Which one if any did you use?

kind regards jason

As a follow up I also had to replace mine recently . I used a thin craft knife to cut around the foam then it just pulled off.I ended up using some UHU contact adhesive to stick it back on again. I didnt need to replace the foam pad, I just glued it back together where I had cut it

yikes Er don't be gluing them on, how will you get them off next time?

Are these the lights youre talking about? http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

They should just clip in, the foam part is just there to stop the paint from scratching. Use some rear view mirror sticky stuff from halfords if they do need a little bit of sticking, just cut it to shape with a knife or something. sticky glass stuff

Yep, thats just an aftermarket one as shown here against a standard item. It will probably be stuck down using something like the stuff I linked or the sticky pad type stuff used on number plates, in the unlikely event that it's been glued on you're screwed. Give it a wiggle to see if it moves and try to get a thin sharp blade behind it like a stanley, it should just be a standard 501 type bulb in there.

Edit: it doesn't look like a ford one, but if it is it wont be stuck down you just have to force it to one side and then it pops out. See how there is the metal clip on the side of the orange one, you push against that and it clips out of the hole.

Thank you for the advice ...

I have tried with some force and it's not moving so a thick cloth ready and Stanley knife is ready... But need to get the bulb... My manual says 5watt capless bulb and will pick up maybe what you suggest to place it back on (No offence Dodsy)

kind regards Jason

ps any suggestions on squeak on alternator belt... It has just had full service looks almost new belt. Tried the tension wheel adding a bit more taking off a bit but still there. You tube trick is the dry bar of soap which as soon as I apply it stops ( so my and a friend opinion) it is belt related.

Unfortunately the soap is temp... it comes back 2-3 days later

Any ideas would be appreciated thx jason

If adding stuff to the belt stops the squeaking it suggests that the belt is slipping slightly doesn't it, is it a cheap patent belt?

Don't start asking me about engine stuff, this is the first rv8 that I've had I'm a cosworth boy really paperbag

It's black !!! Think that tells you my knowledge scratchchin Just like sitting in em and driving smile

To dark now to start fiddling around but if you don't mind I will post back on here to see if I can see a brand name.

But I just brought this Chim last week from dealer and it has had a full go over by them.

Just thought I would ask before calling them.. But to my eye it looks brand new. Will check tomorrow and maybe another Chimaera owner may pick up this post.

If you do have to cut put two layers of masking tape all around it then if you slip it wont damage the paint

A lot of aftermarket dont have the clips so have ti be glued on.

Hi spaceman...
I cant see any brand names just some serial numbers 1394009 010,11,12.13.

Added some pictures... as said looks pretty new to me nerd

The bits of white is just dried soap which as said as soon as applied the noise stops.

What brand do you have on yours?

Kind regards jason

Try taking the belt off and reversing the direction.

Completely changed the sound on mine!
