Obviously these cars never had a hot start problem when new otherwise Blackpool would have been full of the things back for a warranty repair. The hot start issue is a component degredation over time (probably 8 to 10 years depending on use).
I fitted the kit and it 'cured' the problem for a while but then the fuse in the kit kept blowing as it too could not cope.
Actually it covers up the fact that the starter motor, and possibly the associated wiring, is becoming knackered due to its exposure to heat. I had my starter replaced and the problem went away, others more mechanically adept overhaul their starters.

Indeed, the first time I suffered the 'infamous hot start issue' it was not infamous at all.I fitted the kit and it 'cured' the problem for a while but then the fuse in the kit kept blowing as it too could not cope.

A new starter motor cured(?) it, and it didn't come back for another 5 years.
At that point however, blindly fitting a new a starter motor didn't fix the problem, it had become 'the infamous...' and Carl Baker fitted the kit for me; 5 years and counting...
If it is anythying like the same issue on the Pug 205 then it will be a combination of things certainly including starter motor and wiring faults. My Griff is clearly on the edge as I have no hot start issue unless the fans are running, seems likely that the fans are causing the battery voltage to sag slightly and that is enough to prevent it starting.
When it gets worse (and I have time) I'll take a multi-meter to the wiring and find out where the issue is but expect to see a voltage drop in the wiring, my simple fix on the 205 was a second wire to bypass the original - that worked fine. Others also used a relay kit, like the one suggested, or just a starter button direct from battery to starter. Personally I like to think it worked originally so a mod should not be necessary but can see why people would do it as it will guarantee success (if the starter itself is OK). My bypass on the 205 was only because I was being lazy!

If you do the mod it can save your Meta modular alarm immobilizer unit
wired correctly the Meta relay will pass current for the relay only (minimal) rather than the starter solenoid (large) it will also prolong the ign switch lifespan too as they are another Achilles heel even from the Vauxhall days and when they fail the starter will stay engaged without your input and duly burn itself out even with the engine running
how we have not heard of this happen on here with a TVR I just don't know

Nice to see another 205 to TVR convert Rob!
I wouldn't call that lazy, at least you got round to doing something about it, I just live with it!

Not eaxctly a convert, I still have one Gti - I just sold the other 205 GTi and the 309 GTi to keep the wife happy. Thought I'd sell them all once I got the TVR bug but surprised myself and enjoy it just as much now as before the TVR, it just feels very slow now!I wouldn't call that lazy, at least you got round to doing something about it, I just live with it!
