Hi everyone,

I've just replaced my front suspension and springs from the original on the 5.0 Chimaera to Avo 22 point adjustables, and 350 pound springs (after advice).

Now they are on i have a strange issue. The passenger side wheel arch is much closer to the wheel than the driver side. (3 fingers gap on the driver side and 1 finger gap on passenger side)

In order for both damper and spring heights to match, the passenger side spring adjuster has to be wound up to 13 threads on the damper, whereas the driver side is only on 6 threads. This equates to about 1.5 inches!!!

Any ideas what the reason may be. I did fit a new anti-roll bar link at the same time to the passenger side (but not driver side). Could this make the suspension act in this way?

Please help.

Did you settle the car on it's springs with the damper setting fully off? What about the rear dampers, did you change these?
Have you driven the car and checked your measurements?

Sounds very dodgy to me. Are all the spring seats installed correctly on the dampers and the springs engaged correctly on the spring seats (top and bottom)? Run your hands along all the springs to make sure none of them have broken. Check that all the springs are a similar length when they are on the car with weight on the wheels.

The roll bar could put some twist on the car if the new drop link was the wrong length, but the bar is quite soft compared to the road springs so it would have to be miles out to be noticeable.

...sounds very wierd indeed. Did you check the spring lengths before fitting them..? Have you accidentally got one 9" and one 10" spring fitted now..?

Either that or as Pete says, is one of the springs not in its spring seat.?

Hmmmm...

Is it possible to put the springs in the wrong way round???

I assembled the springs to the damper before placing on the car, and they all sat perfectly in the damper.

Could it be a mis-stamped spring, and one be much stronger than the other?

I changed the spring on the AS side as a thought this might tbe the issue, but i have the same condition.

I also fitted a new lower wishbone at the same time, but it's dimensions were exactly the same as the one i took off, so i can't see that being an issue

Any ideas

is the overall total damper length the same on both sides (mount point to mount point).. if yes, then its got to be a spring issue IMHO, if not, then I would have thought its got to be something to do with the new wishbone..

Cheers
Matt

Are you absolutely sure the new wishbone is the right way up?

Is there any possibility you have mixed front and rear dampers? (I expect these will be different lengths.)
