2001 Y Plate model??! No it aint.
2001 Y Plate model??! No it aint.
Yeah, something doesn't look right about that.
It's got a recessed number plate, like it should, but the light clusters are the old style.
Also, it's got the button behind the door instead of under the wing mirror.
It's got the buttons for the lights as well, didn't that change to one switch on the face-lifted models?
But, if it is an earlier model how's it ended up on a 'Y' plate. Unless, it was originally registered overseas and then imported back and re-registered?

Might it be TVR using an older left over body? The interior looks the same as my '98 one.
I understand this sort of thing happened in the wedge days.
If I was looking to bid on it I'd get the chassis number and check with the factory. They should have a record of it.
GF.
The 98 Interior has different switchgear and dash.
Bet they're busy at the minute....just got this
"Dear John, Thanks for your email. We were surprised by this when we first aquired the car. We phoned TVR and they explained to us that some earlier models
were produced but not assembled till later. It's a bit of a rarity but this is a 2001 car but the old shape. If you are not convinced phone TVR in Blackpool.
Kind regards
Markus (VMA)"
you pays ya money and..... TVR hung onto it for 4 YEARS then assembled it ......!!!!!

Must be an re-import, that would all make sense. can't see it being a true 2001 for these reasons
1- 4.0HC engine was replaced by the 4.5 well around 97
2- Malaysian cars were all in the new body style
3- Rest of the car except re number plate is circa 95-97 . Rear number plate on exported cars have always been sloped like the later ones.
4- Also I was told the rear lights were changed not just for looks but type approval reasons as volumes had grown, if this is a later car it should have the later lights to be legal.
