Roll Bar mount bolt in a 1998 (R plate)

Hi chaps,

So what bolts go into the roll bar mount holes.. M10, M12, something Imperial ? and what sort of length.. (I have an idea about mounting the dog harness to the car with one of them)

Nails don't work. You need a bolt. The thread is the same as a seat belt eyebolt.

Hi,

A 1" Eye Bolt will do it. £1.25 from Demon Tweeks Part Number EYEBOLT. Its a standard harness thing.

From memory when i did mine, the standard harness eyebolt was not long enough to allow sufficient thread in the chassis mount.
Consider the thickness of fibreglass and the space between that and the chassis,and maybe use a spacer and locknut.

I already had nice big 3" holes from the factory so when the bolts went in it just pulled the carpet down a bit but not much.

3" (75mm) they're big holes. Must be quite draughty in there or do you have big water ingress problems so the holes act as drains too?

They were glassed over but had gaffer tabs to pull off. Pulled the covers off and put the bolts in and covered the rest of the hole with gaffer tape. Not had a problem yet

Yes i can now understand why such large holes were drilled in the first place,as guessing where to drill a hole slightly bigger than the eyebolt would need to be quite accurate.
When i did mine i drilled an 1/8" hole just above the bolt hole in the chassis to get an accurate position for drilling the final hole for the eyebolt.
Drilling a 3" hole somewhere roughly above the bolt hole would allow room for error and plenty of space to fit the eyebolt!

Try peeling back the carpet in the footwell to see the "holes" left for access to the door hinge bolts. Mine had two bites at the cherry, leaving a figure 8 shaped orifice of leg swallowing proportions. Having pulled the carpet off here (trying unsuccessully to get a colour match) I was amazed at the draught through here. I was also quite amazed at how much brake dust was deposited on my cream trousers!
