Having just sold my Alfa GTV I have decided to take the plunge and buy a car I have lusted over since the first time I saw one at the London motor show, a TVR Chimaera.

I'm looking for a 4 litre around the 8-9 grand mark.

If anyone on here can recommend a good example that's for sale at the moment I would be most grateful.

Hopefully viewing a couple this weekend and I can't wait. Will try not to buy the first one I see biggrin

we have some top chimaera to sell. But well sell them only after full restore/refit and in customer specification. How we work you can see under

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

or

http://verpoorten.emester.com/index.php/component/...

Unfortunately, the consummation takes some time.....that we realize dreams. Content of our refit as base supply I can specify/write down if you want.

Check out the yellow Chim at SSCCTVR in north yorks. It's in fab condition and represents great value at that price. I know due to the fact I owned it. I'm sure that there could be some movement in price?

Unfortunately yellow is the only colour that has been vetoed by SWMBO.

Got a question for you lot. A lot of the cars I have seen have had a recent couple of years gap in service history, but have had a recent service this year. Is this something that would both you? Most of them have covered few miles in this time.

Also is my budget enough to get a good 4.0 Chim?

Assuming you mean 'bother',not really. At the age that Chimaeras are now (between 10-20 years) I would be looking more at general condition rather than getting too hung up on the 'full' service history. It should be possible to tell whether the car has been looked after, if you aren't comfortable making that judgement yourself, you might be bale to take someone up to speed with TVRs with you. They aren't particularly complex cars, but do have their little 'foibles'.

This link might help re the basics:
http://www.chimaerapages.com/resources_buyers.php

I know others will have a contrary view, but lots of stamps on pieces of paper aren't really worth much in themselves (assuming they are even genuine), unless they are backed up with the relevant receipts.

Make sure you check the rubber fuel hoses that run around the rear of the plenum chamber, they are susceptible to perishing due to the heat. Not always picked up even with a 'full history', depends who does it smile

thx, its a original factory Hartge Z3 so not a BMW anymore although it is based on one biggrin
they (Hartge) are also a manufacturer and very rare they do make a whole car and rename it and test it etc...so it don't have a BMW chassis code but a Hartge code, its unique and there is only one made, but that is a side matter, the pleasure is in driving it and the V8 grunt.

Hi, I have a really good honest 4.0 99V Chim for sale at at a ridiculously cheap price as I'm emigrating to Australia in 10 days.

Genuine reason for sale, I can provide one way flight details etc if any doubts.

FSH 57.5k, new outriggers last year, HPI clear, advertised for £8000 but open to offers.

Located London SW4, this car will otherwise be sold to a garage who will hold onto it for 6 months and then put it for sale well above your price range, she really is a bargain and will be sorely missed.

wouldnt it be an option to take the Chim with you.
They go for a lot of money in OZ and you are allowed to export one car if you have owned it for at leat 12 months.

A few minor mods would be required when it gets there

Yes it would if I were on a full working visa as you can take it as a personal import but I didn't realise it took 18 months to process that visa... so I'm going out on a working holiday visa and weeing what happens, so can't take it with.
Gutted as that was the plan, and would've been awesome to have it out there with a decent summer....
I kinda need the cash too and I think I worked out shipping + papers etc to come to about 6k
